Hi guys. I am having very slow browsing speed to certain websites, especially overseas sites and this including singapore sites. I noted that this slow browsing speed will occur when I am having ip addresses start with 219 and the situation improves when I have ip addresses that start with 218. Unfortunately, I am not getting 218 ip addresses most of the time. Made several complaints to TMnut but they have no idea and resolutions to this problem. What should I do?? Hope any sifus can help here. :(

Most of us subscribe to 1.0Mbps. How did you get 100.0Mbps?

That is the speed between your pc and the modem/router. :p

You can read actual connected speed if you know how to access your modem ADSL statistic/status page.

The 10 Mbps as reported by your PC refers to the local speed of your LAN. For your info, my PC says my connection speed is 100 Mbps - it is actually the speed of the network card which connects me to Streamyx.

For the uninitiated, local area networks (LAN) run at 10Mbps or 100Mbps. Latest network cards on PCs support the 100Mbps network speed. Thus don't be misled. Streamyx works on a max of 1 Mbps (best effort) for their public networks connecting from home. If you are connecting from a big corporation, you may have speeds up to 155 Mbps but that is a rarity.

Go to speed-test websites and find out your true speed. Be aware that there is a difference between Mbps (Megabits per second) and MBps (Megabytes per second) because 1 Byte = 8 bits. For example, I use 50 Kbps connection and my speed test usually runs like 40 Kilobytes per second.

No you're not!..I'm just as frustrated as you are!. Am sure there's others too.
The 218 ip address more often than not, doesn't make a difference..at my place.

I, for one, will support any consumer rights calling that if you dont get the quality of service that you have ascribed to, then you should not be paying the amount that you have entered into contract with.

As such, what can we do? That NUT has monopolised the market!!!!

One of my senior friend who is now working with tmnet says that their international link to United States is currently down.

At the meantime, you can try proxy server to boost your internet speed.

Everybody, get your average speed over five days divide that by your subscribed speed multiply that by that by the monthly rates - then pay that amount.
They give me "best effort" - I pay also best effort. !!!!! :D

Am I the only one who has this slow browsing problem with Streamyx here?

So I am not alone. Eversince my wife was admitted at the Sunway Medical Centre on 30th Oct, I was facing Streamyx connectivity problem. I called the Call Centre on 11th November and was advised to do a series of troubleshooting. After I have done all that, they then only agreed to officially register my complaint on 15th November and I was given a reference number 4780858. My complaint is my Streamyx gets disconnected every now and then. Until today, they have given me 3 registration numbers, came to my house twice and I myself have spoken to 8 different people Shah (15th), Fatah (18th), Farizal (20th), Nurul (21st), Wan (21st), Alicia (22nd) and Lina (26th) Ita (28th) at the call centre. Whenever I asked for the same person to relate my problem, they always say they are not around and I have to repeat my complaint everytime I spoke to a new person until I got very tired. And I get very irritated to hear them confirm my ID - Y for Yugoslavia, P for Penang, C for China etc etc Luckily for them, there was no F and U alphabets in my ID. And I alaways tell them why don't you key in my ID as you heard it and if your screen show otherwise, then you reconfirm my ID with me. But no, they wants to be robotic all the time. Anyway, after nearly 3 weeks, they are still figuring out what is wrong with my connection. I have changed my router which went down for a new one, took my router to a friend's house within USJ 12 to test and it works, took his router to my house and test and it fails. I then bought a USB external modem and meantime dial 1515 to use the internet as I have ran out of patience with Streamyx. Thus, I am paying for both services. Now I came across that you folks here are also facing Streamyx problem but to TMnet, they are still very blur what is going on here in USJ as far as the streamyx is concerned. Their technicians came to test the line with their meter and not with a notebook. As far as the technician is concerned, the Streamyx should work and thus close the case and when it doesn't work, they have to reopen the call and I have to wait 24-48 working hours for the next technician to come to my house. Are they doing the right thing? I told them I subcribed to Streamyx and not a fixed line so for goodness sake test the line with a notebook. In my case, I have to loan them my notebook and I am still getting unstable connection. Syiok syiok, the line gets disconnected.

Err...PC:)...remember the saying...like all good things in life...it would come to an end someday...:)

Ahem...used to be a marriage made in heaven...so did everybody said...at the times when Streamyx first 'won' the new bride of the year award...n it would NOT be any surprise then...that EVERYBODY wanted her so badly that they would rush out frantically to get her...n had fallen madly n passionately in love with her then... :p

Err...until such times now...the feel good factor is gone...EVERYBODY forgets that the 'passage' to that ecstacy...is freaking congested n jammed up liao...so how? :D

U didn't see one of my earlier posts - 6 mths in the US, 6 mths in Msia/Spore, mah. Its good to get away from the US winter, with snowstorms, blizzards and multiple car pile-ups on the interstates.

Spore has many good things going for it. Sad that the Msian gahmen don't seem to be able (or don't want to) learn from them. After all, how can the abang learn from the adek ? Its just not done, old chap!

From past experience, it may take anything from 2 to 4 days or even more to reply your email.
FYI, just lately, they took 4 days to fix my broken dsl line..what can I say but patiently wait and follow up by phone call every 24 hours.
Blasting them won't do any good either..take my word for it!. :D

My speed with the xpeedometer test is max 700kbps+ and it can fluctuate to less than 300kbps+ .. But when I ping to certain website, say www.singnet.com.sg; www.boeing.com, www.nokia.com.my, it will go more than 1k-3k ms++ and it takes very long time to download a decent page.. This is ip address problem which 219 gives me the lousiest speed and ping time.. :(

Try checking here if you want to test your speed at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Kinda find it more reliable than the TM Net speedometer.

Folks, Have you tried this tweak: Add Proxy server

For Internet Explorer, go to Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections >> LAN settings >> Proxy, and key in the address, and port number.

Take your pick: (not definitive)

brf-ce03-g2-0.tm.net.my:554
brf-ce06-g2-0.tm.net.my:554
brf-ce04-g2-0.tm.net.my:8080
cdn-jrc-c6100-01.tm.net.my:3128
brf-ce11-g2-0.tm.net.my:554
brf-ce10-g2-0.tm.net.my:554

Take note that this is all well & good for web browsing but may have unexpected results on P2P downloads, online gaming and accessing your router/modem. Temporarily disable it if for other purposes mentioned earlier.

download = 328 kbps (41 KBps)
upload = 89 kbps (11.1 KBps)

ps = this is not from a proxy, just Streamyx 500 kbps service.
