Curry puffs!

Curry puff, Kari Pap Curry Pap, Kahli Paap!..say it whatever manner, its the familiar deep fried local puff with various sorts of fillings and pastry that's oven baked or deep fried. Some filled with mashed or cubed potatoes, even sweet potato, sardine, beef, chicken, assortment of meat, potato, hard boiled egg..,now comes to mind of Old Chang Kee.

Just came back from Sungei Wang and they didn't come back with a BANG..so to speak!..The outlet is just outside BB Plaza, Metrojaya side entrance.

I recall years ago it was franchised to hawkers stragically located in and around the city. I used to get it from Jln TAR..few doors away from Globe Silk Store. They suddenly disappeared.
Earlier this year, I found them back at Sungei Wang..or unless I'm too late finding about their comeback and its OLD news!. Years ago, my eldest brother took me to his usual haunts in S'pore (not Old Chang Kee) at some coffee shops. I'd never tasted anything like it. Now we have it here.

OCK puffs are probably the only one of its kind here but I stand corrected. Its RM1.50 a pop!. I think it was half the price when it was 1st franchised.

I can make good ones too, based on my mom's recipe..but too lazy nowadays. I'll prefer to just go out and buy them if its convenient!..and I luv to savor them with my usual cuppa of teh tarik.

Ok folks..feel free to throw any suggestion of good to excellent curry puffs..(not the ones found in established bakeries ya?) you may have experienced or like a lot. :)

Right!..me not singing songs of praise for OCK but I reckon I now feel like talking about curry puffs for a change..temporarily sick of "tai chow" food AND mamak food..! yuks!

OCK is nice they have another outlet in 1 Utama!

One of the coffee shop opposite the previous Big A Supermarket in SS2 also serve very nice "curry pop".......cheap and nice, many like it but not my cup of tea because the butter smell very very strong!

Try it if u are in SS2!

At the coffeeshop opposite Daya Superstore in SS2? I think those are quite nice, but think they're too big and too oily..but the fillings are just nice. Ya like the Ikea ones? My mum loves them. Cheap and good and always piping hot!
Another of my fav is outside Tai Thong in Taipan sold by 2 malay chaps in a van, the sardine ones.

Curry puff in Grand City same roll wif Sri Pandi in PJ is good ... :D usually this curry puff produce in the evening around 3pm onwards ... and most prob sold out by 5pm .. :eek:

The grand city one is yummy and filling and worth the 80cens i think , thats what i paid the last . must be there between 3 - 4pm
there's like a major rush for it .

Jaipur (not sure of spelling) curry puff in TTDI. Mmmm.... my ex-colleagues used to buy them for tea.... still thinking bout them.

Hmm .. if i can remember clearly my ex-colleague once told me in old town there also got very nice curry puff but can't recall which location exactly .. too bad when they bought it i wasn't around that time .. :o

i have tested malaysia's old chang kee , not the sungai wang one but one utama , oh man !!! i will not try it for second time !!!! it is worst compare to singapore one ... singapore one is much much more better and for info it is 1 sing dollar but it is for worth it , and their others are good too !

personal favourites are the ss2 one and the ikea one , both have their very own tast , so it is hard for me to rate it .

by the way , curry puff must serve in hot !!! so , even a 40cents curry puff could taste very good !!!

Guess what!..I just came back from IKEA and whilst buying a packet of Swedish biscuits, a bar of Swedish CHEESE and a couple of packets of Made for IKEA meatball sauce mix by Knorr!. There's the "Kahli Pap!!!!" Lots of it!

I'd be damned if missed the "kali pap" after the tedious journey getting there!.
I HAD to try them since you folks say yummy, yummy, goodie good!.

Yes..its good alright but sadly more often than not, I don't quite fancy the mashed potato filling and rather sweetish in taste. Perhaps today's folks prefer sweet tasting food!. Nevertheless..RM1/piece (6pcs for RM5/- in-a-box). its of acceptable value, consistent & the pastry that's just great!. Pastry shouldn't be too hard nor crumbly. It should melt together with the filling in the mouth, and neither too salty. I'll could give it a thumbs up!
