Some first hand statistics from Russia:

Average working class worker is paid USD200 - 300 a month wages.

Technical/Skill trademan earns : USD350 - 450 a month.

Engineer level, 3 yrs experience earns USD450-700 a month.

Petrol price per litre: USD0.55(Malaysia: USD0.42)

People still live, in large part of the ex-Soviet Union, poor, opressed and being watched (by agent). Even, I, a foreigner, was watched by a stone-faced "security".

Food? bad. Boiled vegies, little meat to go around.

Weather? cold most time. Sky is grey and road is dirty.

Buildings? poor maintenance, box-type for max space. No arts, nothingfancy.

Currency" Rubles, worthe 29 Rubles to a US Dollar.

People are largely friendly, but could smell the notorious Russian mafia at entertainment spots.

Taxi driver, if you are not careful, a 10 minutes ride can cost you RM500!

Btw what ever happened to their Areoflot do they still land in KL.The first and the last time I stepped on their soil, Moscow was on one of their horrible cheap flights to London long long time ago.
One night in Moscow was a nightmare an unforgetable experience.

is this a synopsis of ur latest visit to russia

my impression is that it is a nation in a hurry to catch up with the west.an early induction and catastrophic democracy experiment ,anarchy with underground and mafia controlling most of the economy and rich oligagorchs entiching themselves at the expense of the state and populace. padoxically rapid and massive development is also taking place in moscow.however no relaxation in laws allowing visitors to vsiit the country

anyway it is a country that i would like to visit on my own .any suggestions from u?

the larger part of the population is still catholics. the only artistic structures u can see are elaborately decorated cathedrals, houses of worships. funny thing is that when the people are so poor, yet, they still spend what seen to me a king ransom on house of worships. I love God and I do not believe He is impressed. you got poor childrens and adults laboured in factories without heating in the sub-zero winter!

in any economy, if u see a rapid development, the rich will get richer, faster, and the poor get poorer even quicker. All roll in one, you see lawlessness, badly regulated by-laws and crooks take the advantage of the system. At the end, coruption and gun rule.

So, what is the bottom line? Worth visiting or not?

How much does it cost to visit Moscow for a week ( tourist class, ie Holiday Inn equivalent accomadation) plus a decent package tour of the city and it's surroundings for a family of 4 ?
Heard the AK47 is going for a song there, can buy eh ? :D
