Fun Walk for residents
By THOMAS HUONG

MORE than 1,000 people are expected to take part in the Subang Jaya 5km Fun Walk at the SS17 playground at 7.30am this Sunday.

The event, organised by the Subang Jaya Residents’ Committee of Zone 1, 2 and 3, is open to the public and there is no entry fee.

Organising chairman of the Subang Jaya 5km Fun Walk, Samson David Maman, has urged participants to arrive on time for the event on Sunday.

“Those who arrive on time are entitled to receive goodie bags and take part in the lucky draw. The lucky draw will offer prizes such as a television set, refrigerator and washing machine,” said Samson during a sponsorship presentation for the event held at the Subang Parade shopping complex recently.

The objective of this annual event, organised for the third year running, is to promote neighbourliness, goodwill and civic-mindedness.

The event will also have food stalls, a colouring contest for 300 children sponsored by Wyeth and anti-dengue and drug abuse talks conducted by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and the Police respectively.

The event is supported by Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok. Lee and Loh contributed RM5,000 each to the event.

We expect about the same number of participants to turn up as last year where 1,000 participants took part in the Subang Jaya Fun Walk 2004 held at the 3K Community Centre. Tomorrow walk will be around SS 17. Light breakfast will be provided.

Last year's participant at the 3K Sports Complex

The main organiser - JKP Zone 1 Residents Committee together with Zone 2 and 3 - are organising this event for the second time and this event is now into its third year. Our main sponsor, Hong Leong Bank is ever more willing to be the main sponsor once again. At the launch held last month, Hong Leong Banks promised that the Fun Walk 2006 next year will be even better and bigger as they will be allocating a much bigger budget.

Adviser Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, who is also the Subang Jaya assemblyman, said the objective of this annual event is to incalcate healthy lifestyle living and create the atmosphere of neighbourliness. Many are so busy in their daily lives these days that they have neglected sports activities.

Lee, who is contributing RM5,000 for the event said the organising committee should be commended for their hard work in organising this event for the third consecutive year and this year event is even bigger with the participation of NPE, Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB) and Subang Parade and hope that tomorrow will see a much bigger crowd turning up. Our MP for Kelana Jaya YB Loh Seng Kok who is our special guest of honour was sporting to come in again this year with a bigger contribution. He gave RM 5,000 this time compared to RM 2,000 last year. AZRB, the contractor undertaking the Kelana Jaya - Subang Jaya Second Link is contributing the first prize for the lucky draw which is the latest HP Pentium 4 desktop home computer towards making the event even more attractive.

Besides taking part in the walk, the participants will be able to visit the many booths set up to make this event more than a sporting event. All participants will have the opportunity to win attractive prizes in the lucky draw. Up for grabs are the 29 inch LG Flat screen television, LG 2-door refridgerator, Nokia handphones, hi-fi stereo, club membership, dinner treat at the latest Chinese restaurant, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner and nothing is complete without scores of hampers thrown it - all coming from the businesses from our friendly neighbourhood shops.

So why not spend your lazy Sunday morning tomorrow walking for fun and hopefull walk away with one of the attractive prizes. See you. Oh yes, only the early birds will get the free T-shirts from NPE so be there before 7.30am.

Now you see it now you don't these people can be so easily bought over. For $5000.00 they are willing to support & participate in an event that is being grace by the same people who wanted to see belly dancing at their expense not to mention that are staying in $2 milliom mansions without the fittings. God only knows how much will be the actual amount after the furnishings Malaysia Boleh. let us gather together and ask for better perks for our community leaders & representatives :p I am quite sure the participants will be voting Barisan the next elections comes around in 2008
