Anyone been here yet? I am eyeing this place to take the kids for a splash! (me too of course! :D ). Would this be the same as our very own Sunway theme park?

Hey Serigala, the only Tambun I have heard of is "Tambun Biscuits".... Perhaps you can share with us what is this about 'same as our Sunway?' thingy???? :)

I have not been there but one thing for sure, I will not go to the end of that world to visit it. Nothing beats Sunway Lagoon and it will be a sheer disappointment after travelling hundreds of kilometers to find what they have to offer is a bubbling hot well and some pathetic adult and children pools with warm water from the well which I read about many many moons ago in the papers. You might as well soak in your bathtub in your own bathroom from the warm water from your water heater and save the trouble and money. But if you are in that area by chance and believe in the mineral and not miracle waters, I don't see any harm dropping by.

There are 2 Tambuns as I know them. One in Ipoh (which you might be talking abt) and the other in Batu Kawan located at Seberang Perai Selatan near simpang Empat. I'm sure the Tambun Piah is from Seb Perai area. ;)

i) Fooyong Tarn - there's none in Foo Yong (ie Seremban)
ii) Seremban Char Siew Pow - there is in Seremban but I was told it originated in Jalan Imbi/Pudu area? :D

Hey GB, you seem to be in a jovial mood today! good for you, bro.
I have been hearing this 'Lost World in Tambun' ad over Mix FM and was pondering over it. Anyway like PCY said, if is nothing different from Sunway Theme Park, might as well stay home!!! ;) and look for alternative places to go. Any ideas, GB?

Any ideas, GB?Mulu Caves in Sarawak.... take an Air Asia flight to Miri and onwards to Mulu by MAS (Fokker flight). Beautiful adventure and intriguing sights as well. Good for family bonding too if you have kids around 8-16 yrs old. Really worth the while Serigala.....

But if you intend to limit your visit to the peninsula, may I suggest an alternative to Tambun, Bukit Merah Laketown at Bukit Merah, about 30 minutes from Penang and Ipoh both directions along the N-S Highway. Better than Tambun hot springs. If its hot springs you want, go slightly south I remember there's one near Seremban.

Well for now, I think East Malaysia is out!! I have yet to visit Bukit Merah Lake Resort. Does this place have water, beaches for the kids to jump in? Mine are 8 + 9 yr olds. :D

If your kids want to jump in water, Laketown is fine. They have a lake, watersports and also a few good pools including a long one with flowing water for little rubber dinghys and tire tubes.... stay in the service aprtments next to Lakeside. Then, for good seafood dinner, drive a little north (20 minutes) to Simpang Ampat / Juru area for good seafood, don't know about the prices now...... perhaps PeterHng can shed some light here.

Good fresh toddy available outside the Laketown but then your kids are only 8-9 yrs old, a lil' too young for toddy, eh? :D

And strike off Pulau Rawa off your holiday list for the time being, you don't want your kids attacked by a prince with a golf club, do you? :D

Since Mulu Caves boasts that it is so large that it can accommodate a couple of Boeing 747s, why don't they just build a airport inside the caves itself just like the KL Mosque is so large that they built a Railway Station inside it....... well it looks like it as many tourist friends of mine were hookwinked by me when I told them that.

Since Mulu Caves boasts that it is so large that it can accommodate a couple of Boeing 747s, why don't they just build a airport inside the caves itselfThere are 4 caves really ie Lang Cave, Deer Cave, Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. One of them is really huge inside, I can vouch for that. As for the number of 747s that it could accomodate, I would more likely estimate it at about 8-10 wingspan to wingspan.

Its also quite cold in there and you could see the silhoutte of Abraham Lincoln at one of the 2 openings if you stand in the centre of this cave. It was the Lang Cave, I think. Imagine a valley of short vegetation as big as 6-8 football fields with a roof over it! Phew, beautiful sight! :)

The Bukit Merah Lake Resort is offering a 2D/1N family package for RM270 per family - 2 adults/2 children. (all inclusive) Not sure if that includes makan. Seems to offer a myriad of water based activities for the whole family.

Have fun...

Lost World Tambun is in Tambun, Ipoh. Same operator as Sunway Lagoon. Smaller version of Sunway Lagoon. Only one small pool has hot spring water. The rest is normal pool water.

The seafood area you are talking abt is located at Batu Kawan/Tambun near the "new" Penang Stadium which has already many many problems with leakages and seats crumbling. There are too many seafood outlets there until you are not sure which is original and which is not. The original one is located deep inside Tambun area near Batu Kawan which I was told. So mysterious until you cannot find them... But I don't fancy going there as food quality has deteriorated over the years. The last I went was early this year and I was really disappointed with the food.... :(

I don't go there much anymore, as you have just said, the food ain't that good anymore and I believe the prices are also steep too.... depending if your car is Penang-plate or KL-plate....

The 1-bedroom apartment is good enough for your family of 4 because got small hall and small kitchen too.... But now very heavy discounting lah.... :D

The drive from Bkt Merah to Bkt.Tambun toll exit is quite a distance, if Im not wrong close to 40-50km?

But from the toll booth at Bkt. Tambun exit to the seafood restaurants is just about 1km, all the way straight to the river side. Just had dinner there last weekend, no crowds at all at the innermost restaurants, all the crowd are at those new restaurants near the toll booth junctions. I had seafood at Prawn Village(supposedly the original one?), not too bad, reasonable price, cheaper than Penang Island & KL prices but only a handful of customers, something is wrong there? Heard there's a new one near to the stadium, cheaper n better food.

Anyway, if u r spoiled by the standard of Sunway Lagoon in terms of maintenace and the variety of swimming/wading pools, Bukit Merah is no match in that dept. But if u r looking for other added attractions like water sport, chalet living, etc then it is worth a visit.

Why not try A'Famosa? It is nearer, and plenty of FOOD in Melaka! :D

Does anyone know about the highway from Simpang Pulai to Cameron HIghlands, does it lead straight to Camerons or it joins the old road somewhere?

I was at Cameron Highland last weekend after spending the weekend in IPOH.

Have not tried the new road, but I did check with the hotel staff and was told that the Simpang Pulai road to Cameron H is popular these day. Apparently it is less windin, save time and easier to get to Cameron H.

Hopefully some USJ forumer can vet this...

From the hotel map, you will see many flower and vege farms as you get nearer to Cameron H.

You can indeed get to Blue Valley - Berinchin - Tanah Rata.
