Steamed talapia for RM35? Now, I know how to charge and change my restaurant into a Tai Chau restoran instead of American Italian refined cuisnes.
No wonder I am still driving a red Proton Saga instead of a red Ferrari. :o :( :o

Had my dinner at this newly opened for few months Restaurant Tien Tien located in ss14 & to my shock a simple meal I ate but I paid for a price which I can have so much a better food elsewhere.

I had dinner there once also and I stopped going there. It is much more expensive than other places. Food is ok but nothing to shout about.

No, that one is Hock Hin (also very good) ... Choy Kee is on the other side of the road, same row as the 7-11 , towards the turning for the schools.

I don't know by what coincidence or alignment of stars or planets, but SS19 is actually WELL-BLESSED with 4 very good tai-chows ..... while the USJ4 all SUCKS !!! My regular is Parkway for the usual stuff, Choy Kee - the fried rice and dry loh see fun are a must, Hock Hin is one of my relatives favourite and another Jin Zhou (something like that) - not bad, but always packed, so I normally go to the others, just as good and much more relaxing ...

Went for lunch with wifey and her folks on Sunday at a place called the Blue Reef in Permai Village, inside the place known as Vale of Tempe here in Penang. All ordered the Fish n Chips, RM16.50 and really good and big portion too. Also enjoyed their freshly brewed Wild Mushroom Soup (RM8) served with a bread stick. Black Coffee (RM4) for all too. Good ambience as well.

You should just open another shop called Zingalicious Tai Chow Restaurante! :D

I dont have to as I have four flags of American Italian Malaysian Chinese to depict my mean abilities of kick boxing, sword fighting, silat and kung fu skills in cooking. My kitchen is well equipped with 13 ovens to 15 burners. Somemore got XL to S bamboo steamers. Even my counter is quipped with bain marie Even the name can be Chinese - Zing Li Cious or ( Zing Li Zhi.which means Real Good Luck ). :D

Perhaps I will devote Sunday nite as a Tai Chow nite with a standard menu from soup to appertizers like stewed chicken feet and wantons of prawns. In fact, part of the menu was tried and tested during the buffet dinner all the while like the last one for the usj.com book exchange .Watch out for the mean Chef Kung FU and silat demostration.:)

It is just that most people come here for American Italians refined cuisines especially the 5 courses. And the dessert of banarama desserts just too hard to resist.

Nervertheless, not many people knows that this mean chef menu can dish out Malaysian Chinese local delights. Just last week, sold quite a number of curry Fish head just 2 weeks ago and many of them usj forumers. ;)

But no commentary on the board - no news means good review news?

Today I went to USJ 2 coffee shop next to shell which they recently had a new tai chow there. Apparently the cook came out from hotel to start out his own business. So I tried their few dishes like:

1. Sam wong egg
2. Claypot soong fish head
3. Seng kwong japanese tofu
4. Oyster kai lan

Overall the portion of the dishes are ok and the food quality some nice and some not so nice still can improve. Service from them are good. Very attentive! Maybe still new.

Lovely ladies there serving & taking orders. :D

Had a Father's day/Birthday party at home for hubby and his twin bro. (does that make it 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 party??)
Anyway, i prepared bbq beef short rib (korean style), Yakitori, bacon-wrapped spinach, bbq shrimp with spicy marinade, 'asian' salad, and skewered italian sausages with garlic-and-bell peppers. Oh.. and also grilled miso salmon. Sis-in-law brought potato salad, squash to be grilled, and cake. So yes, it was an international surf'n'turf dinner. I also made guacamole for the chips and salsa.

Choy Kee tai-chow speciality (according to currymee auntie/owner  ) is the claypot loh see fun, kon-chow loh see fun, fried rice, marmite chicken and pai-kut wong - and I agree with her esp the marmite chicken ... really good and nice. Anotehr one of my favourite is the kung-po frogs ... :D

I have also tried all the normal stuff like watan hor, ying-yong, Hokkien chow mee, mun yee mee, steamed fish (patin, pak-so-kong), veges etc ... put it this way, after trying there, I no longer go to other places !!! :) :)

if 3 small ones...then its 1kg weigh includes that of the sauce & plate!
hahahahh!

No restoran with crab promo luvs u lah....all these rm18-20 or even 25 per kg, includes the sauce and the plate.

Go buy some fresh mangrove crab to see for yourself. The small ones weigh less than 250g..those the size of my fist would be about min350g and it should be packed solid with firmed flesh.

Else, go to Tanjong Tokong, Penang lah tu! for the famous baked crab with roe...Order just 1kg and u will get minimum 3 fistsized crabs with roe sumore! Or go to Har Kui Hatyai, and be amazed by the BBQ crabs!

Yesterday was a lovely rainy Sunday and Taipan had this newly opened HonKee Porridge from Petaling Street. Decided to go there and try. To my surprise with just 5 bowls of porridge & drinks, it cost me Rm42.70

Goodness, to have a porridge also cost me that much and especially coming from Petaling Street. The so called "Raw Fish" which supposedly is a "Sang Yu - Haruan" is a "Wan Yu" with few thin slices thinking it won't have bone but it still have some tiny bones there. So beware, don't take it raw.

So went there ordered:

1. Ginger Steam Fish (if you can tahan the ginger but good)
2. House Special Steam Fish Head (very good)
3. Fu Yong Egg
4. Choy Sum Vege w/ garlic

Rm112.50 worth going back there to eat again.

Speaking of restaurants in Empire Gallery - for the Japanese kakis like myself, I still recommend going to the main HQ of RAKUZEN @ SS15 (opposite to SJMC) than the one in EMpire - dunno whether it is illusionary or what, but the portions at Empire seems "smaller" (chiak beh pah) whilst when I ordered the same item at HQ, full until cannot walk .... maybe it is the RENT and overhead costs, "tiew kung kam liew" at Empire.

I always make it a point never to offend the waiters/waitresses. They are the ones who cart the food all the way from the kitchen to your table. If they are unhappy with you, what's to stop them adding all sorts of bodily fluids into your food?

Got stuck in a heavy traffic condition all the way to KL and almost all the way back home but pass by this Jalan Silang and saw the crowd around this Soong Kee Restaurant. Very quickly, I park at the side for some food.

Ordered:

2 plate of kon lou beef ball noodle
2 plate of kon lou ngau lam noodle
1 bowl of chu chap chok
3 bowl of plain porridge
2 plate of chicken

Truly satisfying dinner for tonite!! Ummpphhhh ... ;)

Then not too far away, there is another stall selling pork intestine soup also quite a lot of people by then I'm already toooooo full.

The porridge stall actually operates outside , right in front of Soong Kee Restaurant and Soong Kee itself only sells drinks + beef noodles. So so so so much better & cheaper than in Subang Jaya and else where.

Earlier went for dinner in Pandamaran, Seafood Restaurant Kebun Kelapa. This place is a pork free serving. Very well known in that area. Last time used to be very nice but today I tried the food there again. Their quality standard has dropped.

Ordered:

1. Sweet & sour crab
2. Steam prawns
3. Kailan w/ garlic
4. Fried glass noodle (very salty)
5. Mantau (buns) to go with sweet & sour sauce
6. La la in spicy sauce ( I actually asked for the soup but turn out differently )

I don't think I'll be patronizing this place again, altho, the price came up to Rm140++ but then again the quality is not there.

This is really dissappointing to go all the way there just to have such quality & their service.

Four of us had grilled kembong fish, 4 large sotong, 4 lamb chop, a large serving of bamboo lala plus one large fried tong-fan noodles. The sotong and lamb was good, especially the lamb but very pricey. Fish was ok only. Damage was $100.00. Will go back again but not for the fish.

2. Assam style fish
3. Nyonya style fish
4. Salt fish
5. Mutton curry (not that fantastic)
6. Mix vege of ladys finger & brinjal

It got the thumbs up from a v. fussy mummy. For me, I vouch only for the loh mai kai tho Sat's loh mai kai had better rice texture than Sun's - either no QC or marginal utility decreased!!

I think Summit's Loong Wang's charges are relatively cheaper (i like the dim sum there too) considering the ambience and all.

CNY is around the corner and its' getting very very near. Somehow don't really have the uhmmm .. like we used to when coming towards CNY the feeling to celebrate.

I just came back from co. lunch 'Sau Gong' gathering. We had it in Ara D'msara the ever talked about Lala Chong Restaurant. 2 tables and we ordered:

1. Yee Sang
2. Shark Fin Soup (portion so bloody small like for 5 pax only)
3. Huge plate of Fried Rice
4. The Famous Lala Soup
5. Vege (some kind of paku pakis)
6. Black Pepper Venison
7. Sotong (to dip wif rojak & chilli sauce)
8. Salted Crab

Overall, the place is a nice environment for food but not the food itself. Quality of food is not there, portion is not there, and not to mention the service too. Won't know how much is the damage but is not cheap, guaranteed!

For me personally, I won't recommend people to go there for food but this place is HALAL too. So if we have Muslim friends then probably this is one of the few available places that I know.

Comment:

It came bloody late & the food standard is not acceptable. So much of shreded carrots & cucumber with mince chicken in it. All I taste is just sweet. Nothing very tasty bout it.

Wanted to order their rice menu but so many selection they only allow you to either order Rice of Day (which is Ayam Ponteh) / any noodles. Really ridiculous! Other colleagues ordered:

Today lunch time, went over to Tropicana City Mall and tried this place called Artista that recommended by my friend. The place is quite nice & cozy , comfortable for chit-chat. They have this set lunch promotion @ Rm13 nett and 50% off the second order.

Ordered:

1. Mexican Chicken Chop - don't really prefer this as the chicken is deep fried & breaded. Portion of the chicken ain't that big too. The worst is their sauce that goes with it. Slight sourish + spicy. And it comes with salad with the dressing of mayo + wasabi & some fries.

2. Dessert of the day (Corn cake / bread & top with vanilla ice cream) - not too bad but after having this. The diarhea start to kick in. Don't know really is becos of their handling or is just becos I'm allergic to corn? Really not sure.

3. Ice Lemon Tea

The uncle would only bring out 1 chicken at a time to until that 1 chicken is completely done (sold) then goes to the back and bring another one.

One of the best around that area which I've tried.

The wantan mee there also not bad but the chicken rice business over shadow the rest of the stalls there.

Last week went enter HatYai and thought of exploring some street food.

I was at the Floating Market there and indeed there is a lot of sampan there where they are selling food that seem very nice. Have been told by the people there that we need to prepare a lot of small change cos most of the food there cost like Rm2.

Randomly I tried:

1. Quails egg (sunny side up with the special Maggie brand soy sauce they use there. Some likes it but to me personally, for the 1st time is OK but then subsequently I feel like puking).

2. Drank coconut water which they put in a bamboo kind of cup. Its's nice and I actually brought it back as a souvenir since I paid for it but many others threw it away. It also has some cute cuddly designs of mug. Only thing is the coconut water and other juices are DAMN sweet.

3. Tried a BBQ sausage - at least I thought it was a sausage but it is actually nasi pulut with some mince sausage in it. Taste? Just HORRIBLE at least to me but they do have other real sausages which they BBQ there.

4. There is a type of keropok which looks very nice. Once you have your 1st bite, the sweetness of the keropok has already spoilt the image of the keropok we always have in mind.

5. There is a satay chicken , which initially it taste alright then after that you can taste like a bit of burn taste. Not too bad overall.

6. Satay babi - this is sold before the entrance lane towards the floating market and the bridge. I like this. Taste good.

7. Fried chicken - it has a selection of 2 drummets / cutted fried chicken / 1 whole piece sold like Shih-Lin. All also same price. Not bad. Tasty too.

8. Thai sushi - 1 piece only 5 baht. There are few varieties to select. Just don't select so much cos all look good but it isn't serve cold and the soy sauce use gives you a different taste.

9. Finally for finale - I had the traditional made ice cream with varieties of flavour to choose. My all time favourite Sarsi / Cola. Only 5 baht for a stick.

Just had my lunch in Syopz in Taylor's Uni there. My gawd!! That really don't feel or even look like a University.

I went to this Backofen and had their set lunch worth RM18 that comes with:

1. Soup of the day
2. Chicken Teppanyaki Fried Rice
3. A glass of Ice Lemon Tea

So far the price is ok as there isn't any tax include yet but the fried rice that came out after 15 mins is not warm / even hot at all.

Went to Bavarian Bierhaus in Jaya 33 yesterday. I actually do feel that this particular branch wasn't really that good as compared to the one in The Curve. Food came and it is not that hot / even warm. There isn't that packed during that time I was there. Only 3 tables were occupied.

Ordered:

1. Sui Kow (5pcs)
2. Chicken & Duck Rice
3. Chinese tea

Took a trip to Tanjung Sepat which I've heard about the seafood there, indeed is quite pack with tourist from around visit there as well.

Once reached there, I went to Jalan Pasar to try the most talked about famous pau from Hai Yew Heng & bought roasted coffee which is just next to them. Tried their pau which is only left with "sang yuk" & vege pau. Really isn't that fantastic as others has mentioned about it.

Drove down to Jalan Tepi Laut which is nearby too to have the seafood that has been recommended in 1 of the blog which I've read. There are 3 different seafood restaurant that has been mentioned: Ocen Restaurant, Lover Bridge Restaurant & Hong Seng Restaurant (which I can't find it around and later heard from people that this restaurant is already closed down).

Ocen Restaurant it was really packed and people were willing to wait, that time it was already 1pm. Next to it is Lovers Bridge Restaurant which is an overflow crowd from Ocen but still able to find a place to sit. Decision made to go Lovers Bridge cos didn't wanted to wait that long.

Outcome in Lovers Bridge:

1. I don't see anyone going to around table to take orders. You need to go counter to make your order and MANY didn't know about such system hence left and went back to Ocen to have seafood.

2. There are few stuff that I wanted to order but is not available e.g. Prawns, Oyster etc.

3. Self-service to take your down plates & teas.

4. Have been pre-warned that waiting period of the food is about 1 hr hence we agreed to wait but our food came out additional half hour later, so total is 1 1/2 hr.

5. With the food that I've ordered and the time spent waiting for it to come and the amount that I need to pay, I think is not worth going into that restaurant.

Ordered:

1. Claypot taufu kang
2. Fried baby kailan
3. Fried lala with egg (not worth ordering)
4. Kung po fried mantis prawn
5. Steam fish with ginger (ang cho fish - cost me like Rm45  )
6. Steam crab 1kg (also cost me Rm45  ) but this is good!
7. Kam heong bamboo clams - also not bad!

While waiting for our food to arrive, there are few other tables around that people waited and left to go over to Ocen Seafood next door. They came later and they ate and they left.

Overall, I think next time I'll try Ocen instead of Lovers Bridge (this is totally banned!!).

Had lunch yesterday in Green View Restaurant. Being my 1st time there I thought that place was pretty decent and service also not bad.

Ordered:

1. Sang Har Noodle - the prawns are huge and the noodles came quite miserable but tasted not bad. That happen to be one of their signature dish apparently.
2. Fried long bean
3. Kam Heong Lala - taste not bad but I don't quite prefer it. Lala quite big as compared to outside but I don't see much of it there. More shells and the lala to have.
4. Steam Patin Fish - this is fresh and good.

Overall the dishes are ok but freaking expensive!! Cost about Rm 220++

Had lunch in Delicious (1Utama branch). 1st timer in that branch and I would say that place is cozy, good feel but service a bit slow. Place is always pack whenever I walk pass and so I decided to give it a try there.

Ordered:

1. Nyonya Curry Laksa (they don't have mee there so its either bee hoon / kuey teow)
2. Beef Bacon Cabonara Pasta
3. Thai Style Steamed Sea Bass (not bad, assam feel in a soup but a bit sweet too)
4. Nasi Kerabu with ayam rendang but the amount of kerabu veges there .. my gawd!!! I won't want to order that.
5. Sambal Udang Tumis - nice but sweet!

Total damage comes up to Rm140

I think next time I should try this new pastry cafe called Lavendar which is newly opened there too.

The venue:
A wine shop closed for us... :p

The food:
The piece de resistance pinkish smoked salmon dotted with preserved pepper corns and a few wedges of lemon. Fork a slice on to a piece of baguette and finish it off with a crown of tangy horseradish sauce...and the Pâté?...argghhh... YES! the tossed mussels with fresh rosemary, basil, a cut of garlic and a generous half bottle of white wine to open up the shells, release the salt and enhance the bouquet...YUMMY! :D

The company & drinks:
a mini United Nation, of 7 nationalities amongst 18 friends, is a latent explosive mix of fun, laughter, food and mind-numbing Vodka jug O' Oyster shots, hot-heeled with chardonnay, Moet, shiraz, riesling, tiger and bubbly big & small...Did i mention the birthday cake was smashingly delicious? :D

Had the chance to go Rest. Tuck Kee as this is recommended by my counterpart. Went there for lunch and this is located in Bkt. Menjalara area which I have no idea such place exist other than the famous Jumbo Juice & steamboat there.

There were about 8 of us and we ordered lavishly few of their signature dishes which I can't even remember the name but the Captain was very good in helping. We had:

1. Kangkong Belacan
2. Taufu with sauce
3. Tong Po Yuk
4. Duck (in slices so can't remember the name but its' very good)
5. Sam Chan Pork with Fish Ball (homemade)
6. Seafood Omelette

The dishes portion are good - relatively big but for 8 men just nicely filled. Total damage of it comes up to Rm184 which is reasonably cheap.

Last Saturday had lunch in KLCC Spring Garden due to other resty around having long Q. Since Spring Garden is hardly occupied and they are ready to serve us so decided to give it a try there. This is actually one of Tai Thong Group outlet and it is halal.

Went in saw the price on the menu is quite steep. So decided to take on very few dishes.

Ordered:

1. Fried rice
2. Signature noodle - egg noodles + mushroom + taugeh + dry scallop
3. Another signature noodle - tastier and looks something like s'gpore fried bee hoon but different.
4. Porridge with dry scallop - Nice!!!
5. Deep fried silver fish
6. Deep fried mushroom
7. Fried lotus root with mix vege & gingko

Overall the food is nice, service is there for what they have charged us. Worth going there for once in a blue moon. Only having chinese tea and light meal there is perfect. Dishes ordered above is too much for 4 pax. Can reduce 1 noodle plate less.

Damage is only RM 201++

Shogun at Sunway or other few branches around Klang Valley, same.
Its not entirely pure Japanese theme but fusion with western menu items too.
Genji wasn't fully Japanese either, maybe because of Xmas, there was roast turkey and some other things. Xmas Carollers were there too, all in the Xmas spirit.
Yes, Its ok for the money if you want wider choice of all sorts, not just Japanese menu.
Google some food blogs on Shogun, surely see some pics and form your own conclusion.
I've no real complaints at Shogun, my last birthday dinner was at Sunway. Since I just had Genji, have to think of somewhere else lah this coming January birthday. BTW, last BD dinner there, if book early, ONE free buffet for genuine birthday day. Check with them b4 going, and I think its mostly packed and ring for reservation b4 hand.
Hmmmm...whats the next venue lah!..Japanese fusion again? hmmmmmmmmm.

Shogun is an offshoot of the original Saisaki at Wisma UOA, KL. Owned by Korean... :D
