was back in subang last weekend after a 4 months sojorn, had my favourite curry mee at SS 19 on saturday morning. it was great, the flavour of lemon grass, chicken and curry powder whiff thru my nostrils.
had a nice dinner on sunday at pizza uno (new joint), food was great but the Anti pasto came after our main course, that's a bad mark to food services.

Went to Logenhause, Taipan recently. The lamb shank was quite good. The meat was tender but the sauce is average. The roast chicken is good as always. I had grilled salmon. Average only. Nothing exciting to shout about. I could do it better at home but then, the atmosphere is different. Overall it is a good and decent place for a family dinner. Not expensive like Victoria Station or TGIF and yet has enough varieties for everyone.

Went to Thai Thai at Sunway Pyramid, it is a new joint under the SEA group (forever bangkok, absolute thai) that has (I think) replaced another restaurant that used to be there.

The decor was bright, really unlike a thai restaurant. Service was poor initially - we had to go in and the table we chose was not cleaned immediately, nor was the table next to us.

The food came fast, but the order was a bit mixed up...overall the food was really good...somewhat better than the other restaurants at the chain.

It is a good place to try...not spectacular but a good solid restaurant.

Its fish fish fish dishes for me over the weekend. My son came back from Sandakan, brought back 2 white pomfrets, and 2 whole ikan tenggeri...DAMN FRESH!.. compared to what we find at market. (I cringe of the quality and expensive price at hypermarts)
One whole ekor ikan tenggeri only RM20... here's its RM22 PER KILO!.. Pomfret price here.. don't want to imagine!

Yesterday went to Midvalley and pass by this Din Tai Fung. Heard a lot bout it but never really went in and try. So it was my first time there. Everything is similar like Dragon-i except is even costlier. Waited less than 10 mins, was already being served inside. Quite fast.

Sat down, they immediately serve the appetizer which is small plate of jellyfish that cost freaking RM3  Then slowly look thru the menu and tried their  'Xioa Lung Pao' and also a mix of shrimp & pork dumpling (not so good) in combo. After that I also ordered a fried rice with pork chop (they were generous with the pork chop) and also 'cha jiang la mien' (comes out to be very small portion).

Basically, portion on all is kinda small except for the pork chop. Even the dumpling are very small but nice. Saw the wet tissue which printed there as they are voted from the New York Times as one of the world top 10 best restaurant.

Overall, food there not bad, a plate of vege is freaking expensive too but people still go there makan.

You should consider yourself lucky you only walloped one plate of jellyfish. The first time me and wifey went there, she took so long to decide on the order that by the time she was ready, I have downed 3 plates of jelly fish, I liked it mah... but when the bill came, I was the jelly fish, soft and fragile inside and outside but no sting left, ha ha!

DinTai Fung is rated best among the Japanese as well. The main restaurant in Taipei always has a long queue outside the door way, mainly Japanese tourists.
RM3 for appetizers is the normal rate. Somehow i never did fancy DTF that much. Had better Xiao Lung Bao elsewhere at little stalls all over the city.
For the best Pork chop with rice in Taipei, go to Roosevelt Road. :D

Upon a friend's recommendation, I went recently to Pudu for a fish head dinner. This corner road side stall is opposite the Pudu Plaza and near the 7/11. It does not occupy the shop but is on the roadside at the corner. There is another fish head shop nearby but it is more expensive.

Anyway we (my friend and I) ordered their signature fish head dish, a plate of prawns (marinated with marmite) and a plate of vegetables. The fish head is quite good and portion is generous. It is not a complete head but broken up. The prawns were extra large type and there were about 8 pieces. Altogether it was $48.00 for the 2 of us. It sounds expensive but when you consider the extra large prawns, it is reasonable. But next time I will delete the prawns. I just wanted to give my oversea-based friend a treat.

One of my favorite noodle shop is in SS14 facing the Metropolitan College. It is a corner shop and they sell various fish balls, different types of meat ball, foo chook and tau foo with fish paste. With 2 tau foo and one foo chook it usually costs me $4.60 ($1.80 for noodle, $1 x 2 tau foo and 80 cents for foo chook.) This shop is better known for its fish ball (50 cents) but they are smaller so I do not opt for it.

I always take their soup noodle as their chilli goes perfectly with it. I think the shop name is Teik See or something like that. It is always packed on weekends.

I was back in Taiping for a few days and a friend took me to this Indian shop called Chetty Nad on Main Road (near St George's.) Have to say that it was quite good. I noticed that most people had nasi kandar but we had ala carte. The fish curry was very good (I had a small fish head which costs RM5.00) Taiping folks could give this a try.

Yesterday lunch, I went to Taman Megah in PJ where this Fatty Crab restaurant is. I went to this Pangkor Fish Head Curry restaurant which has been there for many years but I've never really tried it. They don't served pork there so basically is PORK FREE. No worries ;)

It's right at the corner, upstairs is air-cond and not so stuffy. They also have a balcony like to let ppl sit there if they wish to smoke. I ordered their famous fish head curry, portion is ok but the 'kuah' seems like not enough. So had to ask them to add. Also ordered:

1. Sambal petai with prawns
2. Deep fried sotong (it's big and fresh)
3. Special taufu
4. Kailan with garlic
5. Spinach with belacan

All the portion is ok, if you big eater then ok, if any small eater around then must tell them make small ones. For 9 pax, it's about RM 159.

I know lard is bad for the heart in the long run, but once in a while, it does no harm. Having said that, I personally know some people who swear that food with0ut lard tastes way better. :p

Just came back from nite roaming around Penang for food. Firstly, I went to New Lane where this Sunway Hotel is located so actually at nite there is quite happening. Went there and I started moving around and order:

1. Leng Chee Kang (so so only)
2. Chu Chap Porridge (one of the best I had there, chu chap is really crispy and it even has 'char siew' in it)
3. Fried oyster (not good)
4. Lobak (so so not so good)
5. Chee Cheong Fun (apparently my friend said is nice but I don't really prefer penang style)

Then we adjourn to go Pulau Tikus for lok-lok but while on the way there we stop by this lorong dunno what is the name also but they sell nice chill coconut with pandan flavour. After drinking the coconut and if you want eat the meat in there, you can request for them to open it but there is no spoon for you to eat with it ... ??? Me too at first, but later a friend showed me how to eat with it without a spoon. Really kinda unique way of enjoying a coconut drink & eating the meat. You ought to try and no, you have to find out yourself how to eat it there.

Went to Pulau Tikus, the lok-lok stall is not open so we quickly drive all the way to Gurney Drive and it was already raining at that time and yet we still had the motivation to go and explore it. That's the spirit!!! So reach Gurney DRive there already we actually went and have this rojak fruit which is recommended by my friend to be the best there.

Stall no. 39 GP Soon which is next to the public toilet. Must try!! Then I ordered this drink which for the first time I found it only in Gurney Drive which is the Bird Nest Tea for only RM1.80  of cos without thinking twice I want to try it immediately.

Now am so full and bloated. Really satisfied with tonite's meal.

Aisey go penang ah.. you should have tried the original (some say lah! ;) ) asam laksa at the roadside store in the market at air itam. Went there a few times very nice wor.. so much fish in the gravy, right balance between hot and sour and not expensive also.

If go to gurney drive hawker center must eat the penang fried koey teow, can't remember which store, but fried by old man. Very tasty, with lard and duck eggs :p . Go late habis liao! Best koey teow but expensive and small portion heh heh. Not hard to find.. very crowded one open 7 pm until finish (about 10-11pm lah)

Nasi kandar overpriced and overhyped, so I stop visiting liao. Not worth the money for that kind of food. But there is one mee mamak at a lorong in jalan burma, very nice and reasonable.

Also in penang should head to bukit tambun seafood restaurants, a lot of restaurant there, eat beside the river, in the kampung. Seafood is very fresh and tasty.. not dat cheap but definitely cheaper than SJ. Get mantis prawn super gaint size one , very tasty :p. Penang food much nicer than wat u get in the klang valley leh.

I'm sure all the other franchised food joints are doing the same thing. Just that we hardly hear of any genuine complaints in public. Or is it just too few Malaysians actually complain about it all?. Few or no complaints (feedback?) means NO issue. Your french fries are still fried in palm oil based Cap XXX cooking oil. Meat and vege is entirely local for sure. But our 2 most well know ice-cream brands that many of us know are now IMPORTED in!.

Our of curiosity, just how many of the ice-cream franchise in Malaysia is of a reasonable standard? Reasonable for me is one where the price is not inflated to the point where the ice-cream taste horrible.

On the same note of pricing, why can't we pay something decent for something we all enjoy?

Peace.

I suspect that Swensen's Malaysia has diversified into a full-fledged restaurant. Their main income is no longer derived from ice cream. They offered a'la carte and set lunches/dinners. Their Thailand counterpart is still focusing on ice cream and is still value for money. They do not offer any meals except ice cream, at least in the town where I lived. And they are good.

we had a weird experience durin christmas wn we went to d curve to have our christmas dinner.

initially, we had bookings at d apartment restaurant at d curve....

they advertised (on pamphlets, billboard, n their website) a special christmas promo RM55 n u can pick for a choice of 1 appetizer, 1 entree, n 1 dessert.... part of their entrees included turkey or fish.... promo from 1 - 31 dec....

guess what... it was all a marketin ploy/hoax n there's no such promo...

when i was there durin a wkday lunch time with a buddy, we wanted to order that RM55 set....

d waiter told us, it's on for dinner only.... so we asked, what days... n d waiter told us every nite, but dinner only.

later, when my family was thkin of where to go for christmas dinner, we decided to make bookings there. so i called up, n before making bookings, i asked, is d special RM55 set on for christmas dinner? n d waiter who answered d call said yes. so we made d reservations.

but we showed up on christmas evenin for dinner, n we tried to order d special RM55 set, d waiter hemmed n hawed n said, errr.... its actually on for christas eve only.... durin day time....

sounds like d apartment restaurant at d curve is into false advertising just to get customers in.... how pathetic!

of course, after i complained to d manager, they quickly took down d adverts from d website, n d billboard.... i checked n its no longer there. but ive downloaded a copy adee.... :p

anyways, back to what we're eatin....

so, we ended up at bavarian bierhaus @ curve for our christmas dinner. no reservations yet we managed to get a table.... maybe cos they r tucked away behind all d other restaurants, so unless u've walked to that part of d building, u may not know it's there.

we tried d hungarian goulash, mushroom salad, christmas set roast pork stuffed with sausage (yup, it's actually called that!), n christmas stollen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stollen) for dessert....

washed down with german beer.... :p

food is not bad....

d hungarian goulash is tasty n hearty....

mushroom salad comes with zesty tangy dressin....

roast pork stuffed with sausage is tasty.... but sthin was missin.... after we asked for brown gravy, it was just perfect! ;)

christmas stollen, which is a loaf type christmas cake n is actually more 'bread' than 'cake'.... was a wee bit too sweet....

price worked out to RM146 for 2 pax.... which is normal for christmas (or other special occasions like valentines day) set....

d verdict: food is good, price is a l'l on d high side judgin from their menu.... but d portions r huge n dishes r meant to be shared.... ;)

Merry Christmas BS... one more time! Ha Ha! Glad you enjoyed your meal.

I used to handle the McCormicks range of seasonings... wow, it was tough in the early 90s because not many supermarkets want to carry the product as Malaysians then were still new to these foreign-branded pre-packed mixes, spices and such... even the Maggi brand of local "Maggi Cook It Right" pre-mixes were doing badly in the early 90s...

bslee
11-01-2009, 04:29 PM
The price of McCormicks has noticbly going up time and again since it first appeared. Price go up some more and I reckon people won't buy them, me included. There is an alternative brand called MasterFoods (Aussie I think) that was significantly cheaper when it appeared on the shelves, but now near to McCormick pricing and some even worse. I shake my head!. Sage is not easily found among those 2 brands, although western cuising use this often as another essential and common spice. What to do?.. perhaps the local supermarket or distributor ain't knowledgeable. Better distribute cigarettes lah!
And why Malaysians don't buy these often?.. #1 EXPENSIVE!, #2 EXPENSIVE!!!, #3 EXPENSIVE!!! #4 Rediculous price even for local common spice, #4 Cook western cuisine only on occasion, otherwise its a trip to Nirwana Maju for RM5 and done.

coleslaw, recommend me a nearby cake shop within Subang where got all these please?. I may need to re-stock many of these ingredients.
Thats why lah.. we're doomed living in M'sia, imported stuff forever expensive, tax and what nots, if not because of lousy exchange rate makes it all worse. Don't even speak of cheese..even more expensive now. Sometimes I think God punished me for being born in this damn country frequently getting by with workarounds and out wits.

i usually go to 'bake with yen' or 'chang tung' in tmn megah..same row as fatty crab. reason is, if one don't have what i want, i just walk over to the next. both are cake supply shops and in the same row.

Thank you coleslaw and chookyan. I went to USJ8 cake shop (amongst other shopping at that area) and came out with a tube of sage and thyme at RM2.50 each. Not bad. NO MORE McCormicks hereon, except if I can't find what I need. Truth is, the McCormicks herbs look better and specially selected quality, whereas the bake shop one is somewhat like 2nd grade. Reckon, what I pay is what I get. Nevermind, I'll know later from the taste. Its some western dish tomorrow.

Recently, heard of this new Japanese Buffet restaurant which is already quite well known around; which is called Tenji Japanese Buffet that is equally as good as Jogoya and from what I see could be cheaper too.

Has anyone visited this place already? Any comment on it? This Friday am planning to go there for lunch. Price would be about RM29.90 but every additional hour would caused about rm10 if to sit thru the whole lunch would be RM49.90++. Is it worth it or is it not?

I went there on 31Dec.
For me, I find the salmon sashimi tasteless (just no salmon taste at all), same for the raw oysters. The tempura was horrible. The prawns not fresh and the batter coating is not the usual crispy kind.
They have counters which offers "cook to order", where you can order food by dropping your table no. into the bowls. They have steamed fish, kai lan with oyster's sauce(that's what they had that day), chinese soup (tan tong?), teppanyaki counter.
Plus cooked stuff like fried rice, scallops, pasta, butter prawns,

Feel flow of drinks including fresh coconut (botak coconut), ice cream haagen dazs, cakes counter (tried a few types, found them to be dry).

Tenji vs Shogan, Shogun has better selections.

Tenji is a very mini Jogoya.

Wow! Some say worth it to go there cos of the price but disappointed with the food quality and service yet, I see from the picture here there are still so many that wanting to try out this place.

Personally, I've been to Jogoya & it's good but some of the dishes still disappointing. From the picture that someone sent to me, I see the dishes to be quite tempting in Tenji but from the comment given here hmmm .. I'm really curious with it now.

Probably this Thursday or Friday, I would be going there and hopefully my company managed to get booking for it.

The new Tropicana City Mall which also just launch a new branch of Sushi Tei. Booked a whole area for the company team to have lunch. Ordered a whole range of items from the menu and thinking all the food can layout when everyone has arrived; mana tau still have to wait bloody long.

Anyway, the food was nice and I like especially their Beef Steak Garlic. Awesome!! Had 2 different type of sake; its' either cold or warm. The rest is dunno what roll and roll to be tried there but for now, the menu and arrangement of bill payment is very messy. Just to pay also the Q was pretty long. It's lunch time and I've decided to try out Food and Tea which is a newly open restaurant in Tropicana City Mall as well. Sat down when there isn't much crowd and everyone made their own orders, I tried their Nissin Pork Chop which is in their menu with a recommendation remark there. From the picture, it looks like there is a lot of noodles there and even with the soup but when it came, the soup merely reaches half of the bowl and the amout of noodle; I finished it in just less than 3 mins.

There are 8 of us there and they assure us that everyone's order is in place and is taken note of. So very well, the food all came accept for 1 of my colleague which she ordered something like a pizza kind way ahead any of us and her so called pizza didn't arrive at the end. Chase few times also not attended with a proper answer and the crowd already start to come in.

I really hope these newly operate business people have a proper SOP and training to their staff before serving their customers. This could be their first and the last customer to patronize there.

Went to Seri Kembangan yesterday nite to adventure out on this long talk about Restaurant Kien Kee which is known for their hot soup (spicy). The place is rather difficult to find as I'm not familiar with the place in Seri Kembangan but luckily there is a GPS.

Reached there with all the jam about 8.40pm and started making our orders as we're ready to pig out.

1. Hot soup (with the chu chap, chicken & fish in it)
2. Fa Tiew Chicken in claypot (not as great as what is recommended in a blog, simply just normal and the sauce is thick)
3. A boil vege with oyster sauce
4. Chung Yau Taufu (cold taufu with oyster sauce and some garnishing)

I would go back there again for their hot soup and just have the pork intestine there .. simply just lurve lurve it. (sorry muslim friends, can't help eating what I lurve)

Next adventure would be the Salted Grilled Fish & the Essence of Chicken Grilled Fish in Seri Kembangan. :)

Yesterday we were at Sunway for the State level open house. We arrived at 6:00, thinking we were an hour late, and nothing had started yet except some songs on a mini stage that was blocking access from the Sunway open plaza.

Turned out that the event was supposed to start at 6:00 which really means 7:00 if not later.

Since we were going for a movie, we decided to go back in and get the fastest decent meal we could find.

Settled for Yip's kitchen which is close to the Hartz Chicken Buffet and Nando's - but a lot better than them of course.

I ordered fried cantonese style ho fun with beef - got chicken instead :D Didnt mind. Wifey ordered honey chicken and mee hoon in soup. All very good and fast service...a good choice if you are in Sunway.

Never managed to attend the open house - saw lots of food being prepared but ah well.....

Today, went for dimsum in USJ ... er. Taipan 2 area...opposite that abandoned project that remains abandoned.

The place was packed and we thought we were there late...but more and more people started to come over.

That place we went to has so many varieties of shrimp dim sum, har gao etc...I really liked it and would go back soon.

d food there has deteriorated.... its soooo different from when they were at those squatter huts last time.... when they were there, d food was tasty, d service fast n good, n d prices reasonable....

since they shifted, they hire unskilled foreigners who cant cook to save their lives... they put too much salt n msg in d food.... food is tasteless cept d salt.... fish smells stale n has weird stuff in it....

we were there early last year.... one d waiters (dunno from where... myanmar probably) was so rude n tried to chase us away when we wanted to park our car.... n when we finally were able to make him understand we r actually eatin there.... it took abt 15 mins cos he can hardly speak any local of d known languages commonly spoken in msia.... n english, no chinese dialects, no malay....

Went to Restaurant Caff, Pizza, Grill, Pasta at Bandar Puteri Puchong with 2 other colleague because one of them had insisted that I try their "superb" mushroom soup.
Reached 1 hour from Glenmarie and was so hungry.
So without wasting another minute, we ordered the following:

1. Mushroom soup - No longer available
Was told by the waiter that some customer complained that it was not up to standard, so their boss scrapped it out of the menu.

2. Smoked salmon Pizza - Nothing to shout about poor serving of salmon which doesn't even taste like smoked salmon.

3. Cheese Nachos - ULTRA Disappointment, big time!!.
It was basically some crushed Chachos chips, sprinkled with canned pineapples, Mayonaise, and very little cheese.

4. Macaroni with Scallops - Almost tasteless.
Scallops were overcooked, with white tasteless sauce. A packet of instant macaroni would taste much better.

5. Chicken Lasagne - Also tasteless.
Pasta was not cooked thoroughly and the sauce was poorly done. imagine eating lasagne with half a teaspoon of raw pizza dough...

Overpriced beer so ordered 2 green tea and 1 mineral water.

Total damage: RM 87+ and used the "never coming back" card.

Finally had a foodie weekend, eating out for 4 meals!

Saturday lunch

Went to Fish Gusto, a new restaurant in Taipan. I ordered the fish & chips and mushroom soup and garlic bread, wifey ordered a fish filet.

The soup came out cold but I had them reheat it ... but it was a bit like paste and less like soup. Garlic bread was warm but not toasted (I prefer crisp garlic bread).

The fish & chips and wifey's filet were excellent.

The total cost was about RM30

Saturday dinner

Went to Subang Airport to have seafood. I noticed that the "Mama Chops & Papa Grill" was closed down. Also, there is a road widening project and flyover being built so the parking lot in front is gone.

Lala Chong's was open and busy as expected. We ordered bihun lala, sizzling taufoo and Tuna Paku pakis. But wifey made a mistake and ordered clams so we still ordered the bihun lala.

As usual the food was good. The taufoo was hot and sizzling and the clams were great. The paku pakis was crispy and had a good flavour...and afterwards, we mixed the sauce from the paku pakis with the bihun lala to bring the taste out.

Total cost was RM51!

Sunday Lunch

Went to Logenhaus in Taipan for the chicken and egg salad (7.99 for lunch combo) and Spaghetti Bolognaise (13.99 for lunch combo) plus garlic bread.

Logenhaus can really make nice garlic bread and it went nicely with the soup that came with the combo. The spaghetti was nice and al dente and the sauce was thick.

The salad was reaaaallly nice and tasty with thin strips of chicken and boiled egg and a good mix of veggies and capiscum and tomatos.

Total Cost was RM28

Sunday Dinner

We went to Sunway so we decided to try Pasta de Gohan, which is a client of wifeys. Going in there was quite a surprise - the menu is huge so it takes a long time to decide what to eat - and the prices are quite steep too.

We ordered a carbonara, a wafu pizza and a gratin noodles. The portions were small but the meal was filling, with all the sauce & cheese.

Total Cost was RM75!

Sunday dessert

After dinner, wifey's sister went over to J.Co and bought a package of mini-donuts...so m had his first donut in 6 years! It was a very strange concoction, black sesame on top and cream sauce inside.

I dont think these donuts would sell very well in Canada.

So went and try them anyway since there isn't any other options left there. Ordered a baby kailan (choy tam) and talapia assam fish. Both came out not too bad and since it was their first day operation there the cook actually came approach us to see how is their food. Frankly, I told them that their food not bad but the assam fish wasn't that hot enough when they dish out to us.

Pricing side is quite reasonable and from their receipt they actually wrote down how many gram is the fish. 650g and for assam style is RM20; as for the vege is only rm7 at a very odd number they charge.

One of our favorites is Tropicana Penang in SS14. 2 nights ago, 3 of us had:

1. Sting ray fish curry
2. Kam Heong fried beef
3. Ladies finger sambal belacan fried

Together with drinks (like chendol) it was about RM40.00 and since anything above RM30 has a 10% discount, we paid about RM36.00

The portion was large as we had a hard time trying to finish everything. The Kam Heong beef (beef fried with curry leaves and chili padi) was very good.

1. Set 1 - Original Lam Mee + Gyoza & some foo chuk + green tea
2. Royal Milk Tea (which actually taste the same like my regular usj2 coffee shop made and only thing here more expensive'lah)
3. Mocha Hot (which I think when it serves cold is much better)
4. Toast bun (bun is big but the kaya + peanut butter + butter is miserable)
5. Half boil egg (not really cook and not hot)

In terms of ordering the service is fast and the lam mee came out very fast; I think its' ready already but for the drinks, gosh! Just for the 2 drinks it takes longer than the food to arrive.

I had their set lunch of Rm14.90 - roast chicken wif mashed potato and vegetable. All I can say is that their portion is as miserable as San Fran set lunch but slightly bigger than them. Saw the daily specials on Subway and finally went and tried it yesterday. Not bad, get to choose the type of bread, different type of condiments to mix in. 6 inch long only for the promo and is at RM7.50 and I thought it wasn't enough for me so I took another 6inch  ended up too full.

That is only for lunch and nite same also ... sigh! :(

Yesterday night went again to Seri Kembangan area and this time is the Grilled Salted Fish restaurant which has been a long talk about.

GPS not working well, so gotta do it the old fashion way, stop by the side of the main road and ask around and luckily people around there are nice, they'll tell you the direction which is not too far away.

Reached there wasn't that many people but to have the fish it really takes a long time to come. Ordered:

1. Grill Salted Fish (the skin cannot eat & don't even try the salt cos it's really salty)
2. Essence of Chicken Fish (wrapped in aluminium foil with its' ingredient and once arrived on our table only they pour the essence of chicken onto the fish infront of us) :)
3. Kangkung Belacan - nice
4. Special taufu - good

For 3 pax it cost about RM68. It opens till late but how late I don't know. Roads are narrow in there and anyone drives a bigger car would have to park further as not to block the narrow road.

Went back to Living Food in Damansara for their famous Lum Mee. We used to live there and patronised it regularly until moving to SJ. The taste is more or less the same, the ful chuk is very nice and the sambal belacan gives the Lum Mee a kick. Only complaints are the prawns are smaller and the meat is less. Sigh.

I met 2 anutie yesterday.
One in a chinese restaurant at Digital Mall usj19.
It is my second visit to that place, quite pack by that time. So, me and family sitting down and wish to have dinner.
Before order anything, i ask for a baby chair, this auntie say no more baby chair.
What a big restaurant only have 2 baby chairs, finally i decide not to take dinner at that place, you know la....... with a 2 years old baby, to take dinner without baby chair, don't talk about enjoy the dinner, you almost cannot take your dinner.
Before i leave the place, do you know what the auntie say ??
"Baby, i lost my bissness becouse of you.....", how can she put the blame to a 2 years old baby. This is your own mistake, you only have 2 baby chairs, yet you want to do bisness. Very funny.

2nd aunties is somewhere at usj1, a coffee shop type of 'tai chow', one i pack my car, the auntie (lady boss) come out to welcome us, ask 'Sir, how many pack?', then she saw us with a baby, then she ask ' Do you need a baby chair?'.
You see totally a difference way of doing bissness.
While ordering, the lady boss know how to arrange for your food, she don't give you a very big portion for your order. Finally, the food server in a very reanoable time and portion, finally finish the dinner at less then RM90, and everyone was happy with it.

Was at Sooka Sentral for lunch yesterday and today.

Yesterday went to this Chili Express and ordered their Nasi Ayam Percik. Not bad. They also have western food and itallian food served there but the best is their local and mamak food. For upstandard price on the local food is pricy.

Today went to Centro there for lunch and they have this set lunch with variety of main course selection.

1. Soup of the day or Salad
2. Main course: I've selected nasi tomato with ayam masak merah (spicy)
For the main course you can also choose chef recommendation of the day.
3. Free flow of drink: Lo hon ko

Both services also not bad and food also came quite fast.

Today had lunch over at Tropicana Mall - Mr. Teppanyaki and the owner of this actually has Chicken Rice Corner and also Station Kopitiam. Same like any other Station Kopitiam, that few staff there all also foreigners, service level is not there and food quality also not there. Only thing is good is the price. One of the cheapest place for food in this particular mall.

Only 7 pax, all order is in set and yet they are confused with the number of set we order and number of drinks we're supposed to have. Nothing against them but I think they should really look into their service and food quality served. I banned this place as long as I see the same people there and same service given.

At Teppanyaki cooking area, behind it you can actually see wires in bundle, leader, tools and etc. So bloody messy!!!

Last Sunday wanted to go Esquire Kitchen for lunch but then got to find out that they are under renovation so went on to search for alternative and finally decided to try Crystal Jed over at The Gardens.

Initially didn't really want to try their La Mian cos afraid that it would turn out disaster like Dragon-i and I saw the La Mian was made kind of different looking at other tables that has ordered it.

At that time around 3.15pm, I was already pretty hungry and hoping that they would bring my order faster and at such hour the main restaurant of Crystal Jed is already close for lunch which means I can't go in there but the small area outside operating on dim sum and la mian can still be order.

The moment sat down and look at their menu, the set menu was quite ok to order so I've made a few orders:

1. La Mian with beef brisket (very good - its' now my new fav place for this)
2. Steamed Siew Mai (nice and pretty normal)
3. Steamed Pork Ribs (nice and pretty normal)
4. A plate of egg tart (the moment you put into your mouth, you can feel that it melts in your mouth)
5. Pan Fried Carrot Cake (only 3 pcs but each of it inside it has 'lap cheong' as their ingredient and the style is different from the normal you get from hawker or from Canton-i)
6. Siu Long Bao (this is better than Canton-i & Dragon-i)
7. Pork Dumpling with Chilli Sauce (more like Sichuan or Shanghai style)
8. Jellyfish with spring onion (nice & fresh)
9. Cold beancurd with century egg (nice but a bit salty, if not eaten immediately it looks a bit lumpy but I recommend to try)
10. Cold cucumber with sesame oil (must try too)
11. (1set) La Mian with pork & beancurd (comes with small plate of jellyfish, 2 pork dumpling & dessert(mango pudding); simply just worth it if you can finish).
12. (1set) Vegetable fried rice with pork ribs (comes with a bowl of double boiled soup, 2 pork dumpling & dessert(glutinous rice coated with coconut); the fried rice is nice to try and portion just nice and again is worth it).

Finally, we've made it to Ipoh Cowan Street Chicken Taugeh and Kuitiu yesterday evening on the way back to Penang.

Didn't realised that I passed by this shop so many times when i stayed in the Syuen and Excelsior Hotels.

We arrived at about 6.30pm. Few tables were taken. Only the old couple (I think the owneres) were serving food and drinks without any assistants. We thought it's going to be like this the whole evening but to our surprise within half an hour the whole restaurant was full and their 4 restaurant assistants came at 7pm. Business was very good. I think it's every evening like this. Thank God we arrived earlier or we may have to wait already.

3 of us savoured the Chicken & gizzards, taugeh (Beansprouts) & kuitiu (chinese rice noodle). It was delicious. For the first time, my daughter said all dishes were delicious especially the kuitiu. We ordered half a chicken with gizzards, big taugeh and 3+1 bowls:) of kuitiu plus drinks.

All in the bill came to RM41.80. I think the price is reasonable.

Was a bit disappointed that they don't serve rice. other than that everything else was perfect. By the way, we saw a row very nice Flame of Forrest trees blooming at the side road next to the 4D shop:)

Totally agree with you,I also been a fan of her since i shifted to subang 12 years ago.Her curry things ( cockles, sotong, chicken, sambal, eggs) just suit my taste.Miss her food since now i go to work at 6am,try only to go on Sat if not working.Hey,you miss to mention the beautiful lady selling S'pore chicken rice, not bad only the chicken servings is small but the "kuah" is nice

Not chicken rice fan there... prefer the usj4 casablanca chicken rice and the one at nite at meisek.

If u like economy mee, there is one near lick hung....the other end of melur... the aunty limps a bit... but like her radish and carrot cake also.

Also, there is one behind bacfree. The one at meisek in the morning... so so.

...the one next to the dim sum shop. the Lorong selamat ckt shop (3rd stall). 4th The wan tan mee... 5th Curry laksa and the 6th Shirley, 7th Pork noodle.

The second stall... the economy mee stall ( not the vegetarian - 1st stall) my favourite for the pass 10 years in usj 14. She was in mei sek last time.... fast and economy.Oh, ok. I haven't eaten at that kedai kopi for a long time. I used to go there for the 'chu-yuk-fun'. The said stall has since moved to the kedia kopi next door.

Haven't tried the economy rice. May well do once I get the craving for 'chap-fan'.

Can hardly figure taking a roti canai from a chinese stall in Malaysia though have been taking it from Malaysian Chinese in USA. Actually I dont mind taking the food prepared by knowledgeable chef but in Malaysia a lot of bosses let thier foreigners simply dished up the dishes like Char keow tiau and etc after taking them straight up from worker agencies just a couple of months. Looks simple but it takes a lot of practice and skills to cook it right. Malaysian bosses are simply too lazy now.
Even my maid cum worker was with me for two years, she was only allowed to heat up my sauce and cutting veggie. The only thing she was allowed to cook was my Nasi lemak and sambal and even then the ingredients was solely prepared by me. Asking here to pan sauteed a steak.... well she would not know waht is medium rare and cooking a piece of meat is not exact sciene.
But I got to give her credits as she is even better than the Taylor College student.

It's all about educating the people on how to cook and giving that person some time to get the feel of cooking it but really, some foreign workers don't even know what you want and give you the wrong thing. Nevermind but taste also lain macam.

Just finished lunch near my office Chinese coffeeshop in Seri Kembangan. One of the best char kuey teow I had. Shop is the same row as KFC on the other end.

Just had sort of tea time just now at Kopitiam 333 abt 6pm while waiting to pick up my daughter from USJ12 school. It's located next to Arcadia Apt.

Ordered half-boiled eggs, teh tarik and toast.Waitress didn't tell me I can order a breakfast set which is much cheaper if ordered with Kopi 333 whatever it's this kopi. They charged me separately. That was not the main issue.

The eggs came almost fully cooked. told the waitress it was already cooked and she can still ask "Boleh makan ar?" Was wondering, "If I want to eat boiled eggs I'd hv ordered that". But nah.. didn't argue with her. Told her I want it to be changed.

Toast was so-so only la. Teh tarik was not nice at all.

They were trying to copy Old Town Kopitiam but without any aircon and any tastes but charging almost like their prices!

Would try not to step in this restaurant shop again.

As far as the stupid waitress is concerned, egg is egg in Indonesia, so "boleh makan ah"....

If it had been me, I would just walked away...

Anyway 333 won't last long lah... the toast is powdery, signs of 'old' bread not well baked....

This week, two limited editions of American VIP drinks are on sale, A Kiss and Autumn Sunshines as I just got the handful ingredients. And recommendation of the week are USA grade A scallop just like the same size and quality which was served to US celebrities back in the States. The things not served to the US folks and serveing right now right here are Baked Curry Fish Head with yogurt and Baked fish head OO7 ( 7 ingredients with infused ginger olive oil and etc....non spicy. The fishes are packed and frozen at sea from New Zealand. There is why no MSG is needed but reservation is needed. Check out from my website under Go to 'healthy with no MSG' thread.

Thanks franky once again for explaining to fellow bloggers what to order.

In my old menu at Zing Zang, I had regulars so no problem of having over 160 choices. Yes, a whopping 160! and at least 130 of them vailable at any time. Over here, it is more or less the same though I package it under 5 courses menu and express menu which consist one singular choice like pasta, bread, rice, noodle, porridge for those who wants thier food fast. None of these are precooked except for my nasi lemak ayam.
Another way for tasting the variety of menu is my sunday buffet which is priced at RM19.90 with 2 days advance booking. SMS my cell number and it is acceptable until 6 p.m. this weekend.
And if you really have some important guests to impress, I would customised 6 to 10 courses meals with menu like Black Cod Fish, norwegian salmon, lobster, mussel triplex, USA graded scallop,...............
Well, like franky said , you be confused with the list. Tell me what you wish to eat and I take it from there. it is important the meals impressed your guests as you are the host. As for me, it is important to impress you as you are paying me and trust me to design the package for impressions.

Yesterday went to PJ just behind this New Paris Rest. there is this place which has been operating there for a long time already called Lilycenario Cafe.

Was over there for lunch with my group of colleagues to celebrate June Birthday babies ... there since it's my first time there, I saw on the menu lilycenario chicken chop with salad. Thinking that was something quite unique from there so I tried. It turned out to be that the chicken chop actually taste like my mom's cooking of chicken with potato sauce. Of cos added with some lemon skin slices/shreds there.

Then I ordered their tea which is good. I tried the usual peppermint tea and it's refillable.

The salad that comes with the chicken chop is actually more than the chicken. Definitely tak cukup makan! From outside the sign says it serves no MSG. Anyone who is into health with food can try out this place.

Many places advertise no MSG signage, but ...how many chef knows that MSG is E621 or permitted food enhancer that is present in a lot of premixed sauce and even in mashed potatoes? And in soya sauce and oyster sauce?
I am not really disputing the shop is using MSG indirectly, but it pays to check especially if anybody have a pre exisitng medical condition like hypertension, heart failure or cancer to stay away from it.

In fact, my brother who returned from New Zealand and is somebody with Wellington city council did not know that he should not take diet coke as he is abstaining from sugary content as he is diagnosed with diabeties. Imagine his surprise, when he read about the facts and figures at the www.msgtruth.org. The worst part is his son is an brilliant doctor practising in Australia. His other son is also pursuing medical degree as well!

For more info, try to read on the thread under "healthy food with no MSG" and log on to www.zinglicious.blogspot.com for redirecting info on artificially sweetener and enhancer like MSG with other sites such as american heart association, american cancer society and etc.

My intention is to educate people about food and not discredit genuine caterers having the same vision to provide good meals and not artificial nice food. In fact, customers who came can acknowledge the fact I would be happy to serve healthy food that is acceptable in taste than telling me it taste is far more superior than a lot of places.

by the way, my blog has a wikipedia map overview if you click on the complete profile.Kind of jumbled up as I am not internet savvy to organised it properly. Just happened to be a chef and medical detailer - too old to learn how to blog properly.

Had dinner yesterday nite at this place in Jaya One called Brisik. The setting not too bad. Quiet, not that many tables around and not that many people too. They call this place Kuala Lumpur Cuisine which have mixture of Indonesian, Thai, Western, some part Chinese and Malay food.

After looking at the menu, I just ordered their Thai Beef Fried Rice. Came with the usual. The keropok, 1 kicap sauce (not bad but I don't prefer to use additional kicap), 1 blend green sambal and the unique of the thai beef fried rice with the sauce and some part the normal rice colour there. Decoration is good.

Suitable for 2 person chit-chat but if in a group sitting outside would be a good choice cos the indoor environment and area is really small.

Its quite easy just very time consuming peeling all the bawangs and stuff. My blender died, and so had to do it the old fashioned way. I pounded the stuff for nearly an hour (my lesung is very small, had to do it bit by bit). Ate with meehoon, and with prawns, fishcakes, shredded chicken, tauho-pok, taugeh, timun strips and garnished with daun kesum. Very wangi!

Split the bitter gourd in halves first and soak it in water for a few hours before slicing them, this takes away the 'bitterness' and makes the bitter gourd less dry. One simple dish would be to fry the bitter gourd in an omelette dish, don't overfry so it taste fresh and green. Good for diabetes patients lah brader, reduces glucose reading level (like ladies fingers).

The best I have tasted done this way is at Lucky Restaurant in Seri Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. :D

Thanks for the tips. With the bitterness lessened, maybe my son will not boycott it. :) I love it with omelet or roast pork.
