My maid will be going back to Cambodia. What is the best way to send money back with her? carry cash? Bring a bank draft along with her? Send by transfer? Which bank would be best for her to get her money fast (and safe)?

all recommendations/advise welcomed and appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Mostly this depends on the maid itself. I used to have Indonesian maids. This is my first maid from Cambodia and I have already got another one from Cambodia. Hope this answers your question.

To set your expectations right, they would have language problem when they first come here and you need the patience to teach them.

Gina, I think the use of banks will be dependant on how Ulu the maid's kampong is. Having a language problem would make it difficult for the maid to understand your queries about her ability to cash the money when she goes back. Of course a bank draft is the best and safest way. My last Indon maid went home with a bank draft (on her request). Like you I have a Cambodian maid who will be going home next year. Fortunately for me, she is quite good with English (altho' elementary level). All I know for now is that she prefers to be paid in USD equivalent, no other currency. Must be a big black market for USD back in Cambodia (like in Indonesia)

Actually, there are no longer any language problem after two years (My caution was to only ensure waisekmao does not think there are no problems in the beginning). She speaks good english now - better than some Malaysians..

Yes, in Cambodia, the best currency is USD but I think it is used openly, not black market.

My maid intends to cash her money in the capital so it would not be much problem. I wanted to know if there is a recommended bank like sometimes Malaysian banks have branches there or HSBC or something like that. I don't know the situation there. I am trying to avoid her waiting too long to get her money.

Thanks, clfoo. Will check with Public Bank.

Waisekmao, you run a restaurant?

My agency is Cita Selasih in Bandar Sunway. Arrangement - similar to all other agencies that do foreign domestic maids. Their phone number is 5637 9088.

I don't know them - found them in the newspapers. Just wondering - how many agencies are there that can arrange for Cambodians?

I believe Maybank is well established with working relationships in the ASEAN countries. However, I did encounter one problem getting a bank draft for my Indonesian maid to send money home. Maybank had a change of staff and their bank draft ( with 2 officers' signatures ) could not be cleared because the Indonesian bank did not have a verification for the new officer's signature. A bit of a screw up (which was solved eventualy) and that can be a big problem if the maid goes home and meets such a scenario. She'd probably think you cheated her with a bad cheque and send the Cambodian underworld for you !!

My maid agency have a good link in Cambodia, do PM me if you think my agency can help.
