My wife recently discovered last week that her prepaid phone outstanding has been drastically reduced last 3 month although she hard hardly make call. Her outstanding 3 month ago :from RM200++ and now RM30++. Total loss / cheated = RM201.00

Reason being is she has been receiving SMS questions / contest created by 3rd parties companies and one of the companies charged RM2.00 per question whether you reply or not and the other one charge RM2.50 per week on same condition.

A visit to telco on Sat is unable to help to bar the incomming SMS from in and phone call to contest companies is unanswered due to long public holidays.

My wife manage to get in touch with them ( 2 companies) finally this afternoon and seek explanation they have been deducting her prepaid money for the past 3 month. Their explanation is that it is related to TV program, i think 8TV which put questions on screen and answer to win attractive prizes.
One indicated it was was activated on Sunday 10.55am, probably my son activate it without our concerned and the other one activated on Friday 12.00pm, school day! Now that could not be my son!

Now, this very unreasonable and i am unable to claim back my refund, as far as i am concerned i did not subcribe to SMS contest and even if my son tried to answer one question from the TV, it does not mean we agree to continously receive the SMS. No doubt my wife has been receiving SMS question contest but choose to ignore and delete and consider is SPAM.

Now folks, if you received SMS with number 32848 and 32882, check your bill or prepaid outstanding. The contest organizer say that they are unable to refund the money as once we activate it (i think by answering to a question) we are bind to the term and condition??? (as shown in the TV, i presume?).

Yes.......I kenal once

They argue that on TV thus limited air-space; so cannot air every single words
They said that you were advised to read all about them/rules in the website furnished in their welcome sms to you almost immediately after your 1st response
They said the advert is "approved by the authorities and TV Station to air"
They said you responded therefore "YOU applied to play their game"
They said the fee/sms is advertised "...RM2" in their question sms to you
They said that "YOU are new to this sms game....but youngsters are playing"
They said "even though you didn't answer the Q, it is RM2/sms from them"

I asked for Company No. Don't know. Cannot give.
I asked for Company Address. Cannot give
I asked to speak to MD. "I am the only person you can speak to. The customer service is your only point of contact."

I made such an bruhaha that they agreed to refund me....but instead I requested it to be made to a charitable NGO which they did (checked).

IMHO, it is misleading! I told them why don't you up the no. of question to 3Q/day rather than 1Q/day. By doing so...your revenue triple immediately! What if it is my wife diligently made payment for my mobile handphone bills automatically month-in month-out? etc.........

Untong banyak banyak lor! How can I start this business???? Any chance?

Don't know which prepaid you are using but some information on ECP (external content providers) can be found at

http://members.maxis.com.my/hotlink/Ecpa/EcpSearch.asp

Or to stop a service, general sms command is

STOP send back to exactly the same number you received the sms from.

Hopes it helps.

i had my fair share of experience as well.
and that STOP thing didnt work for me.. i typed STOP and it sent me back an sms saying that the command is not recognised .. whoahh.. charge me for that reply summore leh

so decided to call maxis customer centre. i asked them to lodge a complian the the external content provided which they did.

still havent received this month's bill yet.. dunno if it works. if not i'll have to call up their customer service again.

Try making a complain to the MCMC, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. http://www.cmc.gov.my/

They are quite good at following up and making sure that your complains are attended to.

My wife used Digi, went to office in Taipan on Saturday. They ask us reply back "STOP" sms back to organiser and furnished us with company name and office number. Phone call to this companies went to voice message stating that they are closed during public holiday and the voice mail continue even on whole of Manday morning yesterday.

Be Persistence. That's all.

Look at their ad. In my case it is late at nite (when you are about to slumber into slumber land) when you let down your guard.....suddenly...this ad staring into your half asleep eyes.....

Win a $$$$ by answering this simple question. Send your sms to xxxxx. And the advert disappear from screen....... (Caught your AWARNESS)

wait.............(aiyo yooooo what the hack...so simple....only RMxx per sms....chance it lah .....) (Caught your INTEREST and DESIRE now so you decided to take ACTION) [Basic marketing strategy man....AIDA]

Then, advert out again.......quickly remember the sms no. check the sms charge...."RMxx per sms" Checked? Yes checked ....can afford...Yes reasonable.

Then.....you send.....
split seconds......a return sms....."congratulation...correct....you can read the rules at www.xxxxxxx.com.my Tel:xxxxx........." Hey I am about to sleep...would anyone switch on the computer to read the small print.....

Even Malaysian Idol....every sms YOU SENT (NOTE: YOU SENT) is RM0.50. The emphasize is YOU SENT.

Question keep on coming via sms on a daily basis. Ah.....not interested anymore....ignore them..... anyway it is when I sms them..right? As they say "RMxx per sms"!

Wait a minute!!!! They say "RMxxx per sms" That's correct.....

SEE! HOW CLEVER! That covers every SMS them sent too

You be the judge now!
