Singapore Straits Times reported today that SingTel is offering "surf-all-you-want" broadband connection (512kbps) at S$36.75 per month. This is to encourage dial-up Internet users in Singapore to switch to broadband.

SingTel's 10Mbps broadband service costs S$88 (RM193.60) per month.

Hong Kong has 10Mbps broadband at HK$148 (RM70.40) per month.

The cable vision provider in Singapore, StarHub, offers cable-based broadband 2Mbps at S$58.80 per month and 30Mbps at S$121.80 per month.

Speaking of which, when can we hope to see Streamyx "graduating" to offer higher broadband speeds, say up to 10Mbps? Or are we condemned to endure low speeds, intermittent connections and lousy customer service?

I wish Jeff Ooi, with his excellent lobangs into Streamyx would raise the issue with the powers-that-be.

lobangs[/I] into Streamyx would raise the issue with the powers-that-be.

Jeff should use his connections to set up a REAL competition to streamyx. Alone Jeff can do nothing...his word is only his word. Not enuff weight to sway bizz decision.

This streamyx + other broadband inefficiency is the direct result of few REAL & written complaints and DROPPED OUT rate amgst subscribers. Sad but true, We are a bunch of suckers to this suppliers...A samo samo situ as Astro amgst forumers...bitch, bitch,m bitch but no solid action. Cut the subs and see what happen next...You berani? I did but what2do...I am alone, no streamyx, no astro, no toyota, no standchart acc...Oh mighty Neebokaneezer, am I DUH only one :o

Well, Singapore has a very competitive society. Everyone thrives to achieve max profits, outfighting each and every company. Singtel and Starhub is the perfect example.

At first, when Starhub first started in Singapore, they had mobile phone lines contracts with incoming phone calls free. This, naturally impacted Singtel's Business, and hence, the incoming free phone plans came into Singtel. Til now, both companies' contracts are almost the same. You have to work out for yourself to see which is better, down to the very last penny.

I heard of Astro Cable TV from my cousins, and that kind of surprised me, as Malaysia is improving. But this thread is most disheartening, by the Cable/Broadband.

You see, now there are such contracts in Singapore, whereby, incoming and outgoing phone calls are free. (Now you see the competition. :D:D:D). What about Malaysia? I don't really know, as I'm not Malaysian. Are there not enough competition amongst Telecommunication Companies to drive them to improve themselves?

Ya, 6 mths in the US, 6 mths in Msia/Singapore.

The contrasts are telling.....between Spore & Msia, that is. Not to say that the good ole US is any better.

I don't know what are the differences between singtel n tm or what n how the different operators operate theirs. They may have move so much ahead for all to hear.

Nothing much, lah. 6 mths in the US to look after a couple VC-type investments in Si Valley; 6 mths in Msia/Singapore to catch up with family and friends and eat local food.

The passport says that I am still Msian!

The grass is still greener this side of the pagar !
