View Full Version : Mrs PC Yeoh

Orchi, who is on the road right now, called to advise that Mrs PC Yeoh was admitted to Sunway Hospital last night.
Doctors suspect a blood vessel problem, and due to this, she had a CAT
scan done.

I know all USJ Forumers will pray for her speedy recovery.
U can contact either PC Yeoh or Orchi for more details.

Subject: I am feeling very depress over my wife condition
To: <deleted>

I will be out of action for some time due to the sudden medical condition of my wife. Last night at 8.30pm she was admitted into the ICU of Sunway Medical Centre. One of her blood vessels in her brain burst. She is in her perfect health but the doctor said her condition can happen to anyone any age. It is a time bomb without symptom. She was very lucky to be alive. Tomorrow morning the neuro surgeon will do a angioplasma or something like that where they will pump in coloured liquid to determine exactly where the leak is. I saw the scan just now and the scan did show that there was blood traces in her brain. An operation is scheduled in the afternoon to plug the leak. The surgeon just now at 10pm was trying to explain to me but I was not in the right frame of mind to fully understand. He will talk to me again at 12noon to explain the required surgery.

At 8pm, we were at Taipan to buy dinner home to eat. She went into Mcdonald while I sat in the car waiting for her. She came back and the next stop was at Honda Kah Motor. This time suddenly she said she has this unbearable pain in her head. Thinking that it was a headache, I offered to run down to buy the nasi lemak in front of the 7 Eleven. When I came back to the car, she has already collapsed. I rushed her to the nearest clinic which is next to the RHB Bank where the doctor gave her two jabs and then summon for the ambulance. I followed her to the hospital where she was admitted. The doc at first suspected severed migraine but when she saw the scan, she related the bad news to me. I am now at loss. Things can suddenly change. I don't know her chances of getting thru but I will pray hard that she will pull through without any brain damage. Pray for us.

Good night

Though I do not know Mr. & Mrs. PC Yeoh personally, I can sense the distress PC is going through from the contents of his letter. Having said that, I hope Mrs. Yeoh will have a speedy recovery and that God will work a miracle in her life that she will live to testify. May God bless her and the family.

would the hospital be needing blood for the operation? what blood type?

31-10-2005, 12:54 PM
burst blood vessel in brain = stroke, right? :(
Btw, how old is Mrs PC Yeoh? I know stroke can happen to anyone at any age at anytime, and it's not limited to senior citizen only...

And don't worry PC Yeoh, I know the specialists at SMC are quite good.

31-10-2005, 02:22 PM
From what PCYeoh has described, this is a case of brain aneurysm (sometimes wrongly spelt as anurism).

As quoted in http://www.bafound.org/info/index.php -
"A brain aneurysm is a weak bulging spot on the wall of a brain artery very much like a thin balloon or weak spot on an inner tube."

This is a problem with no signs of impending danger. It can happen to anyone of any age. One cause of the problem is a defect of the blood vessel in the brain that becomes literally a "time bomb".

All we can do is pray for the best. This is a very trying time for PC and his family and although we would like to help, I believe we should let PC have some peace and quiet with his family.

Be strong for your wife PC. Will be praying for her speedy recovery. Take care.

01-11-2005, 12:45 PM
EL Ho, Chang and I rushed to the hospital around 6:3-pm yesterday, without realising that Helen was still in the OT and PC has gone back to take a rest in his house.

Was on the line with PC again a while ago and glad to know that Helen has pulled through marvellously. She is expected to be transferred out of the ICU by tomorrow.

Say a little prayer for her speedy recovery, folks.

01-11-2005, 12:50 PM
Just left Helen and PC at the Sunway Hospital and I am happy to report that according to the doctors, Helen is doing more than fine now (in fact they brought her lunch on a tray) and as Jeff said she will be transferred to a normal ward by tomorrow.

I will leave PC to narrate the story at a later time.

01-11-2005, 04:25 PM
Thank goodness her surgery was a success! We all hope that she will recover speedily.

01-11-2005, 05:28 PM
Thanks Uncle Robert for the update.

Wanne share with you PC's sms to me early this evening:

" According to her neuro surgeon this afternoon, Helen made a very remarkable progress. She is eating well and also passed with flying colours all the medical tests. We thank God for this miracle. Tomorrow they will move her out of ICU to the normal ward where she will stay b4 discharging on 7 NOV"

So, let's all be happy for PC and obviously our prayers and good wishes must have helped. And let us all wish Helen a very speedy recovery.

02-11-2005, 12:18 AM
God bless !! Speedy recovery mrs yeoh and stay strong PCYeoh !!

Was just informed over IM by Chermaine about PC's wife. Am thankful that things have worked well so far. Let's continue to uphold the family during this trying period.

02-11-2005, 05:53 PM
Sorry folks that I was unable to respond mainly due to my Streamyx modem router and my internal notebook modem for dial up which chosed to fail me at the wrong time but what is that compared to the anguish I have gone through during the past 48 hours. I thanked you all for your concern and prayers in whatever form as I strongly believe in the power of prayers.

What my wife has gone during the last 48 hours is a miracle in the making. The neuro surgeon Dr. Wong Fung Chu at Sunway Medical Centre even commented that she is very lucky when she made a very remarkable recovery without suffering any damages. 40% usually never made it, another 30% reached the hospital in coma and ended up as stroke victims and she is among that remaining 30% that recovered with minor or no problem at all. By the way she is in her mid forties. Before she was wheeled into the operation room, she asked her doctor whether she is going to die as there is a 15% risk factor. She was afraid that she could not depend on her luck too much. But I like her doctor. He has a human touch and with humour too. "No Mdm Khoo, you are too young for that." My last words to her was "You just hold on. The whole community is praying and some are chanting for you - the former is for my comfort, the latter is for hers. And if God is for us, who can be against us.

This afternoon, Dr Wong did another test and she passed with flying colours. As a reward, they will remove all the tubings and "demoted" her from the ICU ward to the general ward which is good news for her. It means she is very mobile now and can entertain her visitors 10 at one go instead of treating them like Noah's animals - two by two. Dr Wong also recommended her stitches be removed this coming Sunday and she gets to go home same day. And that is a miracle.

02-11-2005, 06:29 PM
Dear PC Yeoh, All of us here are so glad that Helen made it through with flying colours. We will continue to pray for you and your family. Take care and God Bless.

02-11-2005, 08:04 PM
Err...dear PCYeoh:)...Yes the Lord has heard all our prayers n well wishes...we must be grateful also...that Dr. Wong is blessed with the remarkable healing hands...to have performed the long n complicated surgery successfully...:)

So sorry that I missed reading this forum the past few days and even missed it again this morning while posting at another thread!

Anyway, Praise God that He has brought about a miraculous healing for your wife. All the prayers by so many concerned ppl must have certainly made the difference. Am so happy for you and your family that she managed to pull through the surgery nicely.

Will continue to pray for her complete healing and recovery. You must have gone thru' a lot the last few days. So take care and have a good rest.

PC, I have not been visiting the forum for a few days and did not realise that you have been going through such trying times. I am so happy to hear that Helen's surgery was successful and that she is on the road to recovery. I pray for God's continued grace upon her and for you and the rest of the family. And we will all continue to pray for her recovery.

03-11-2005, 12:23 AM
pcyeoh, I'm really glad that your family manage to pull through this trying time. To me it's not a miracle, but rather god recognise your good deeds and contribution toward the community all this while ... Take good care everybody.

If you are one of the motorists at Jalan Kewajipan and the New Pantai Expressway who didn't give way to that ambulance that Sunday night at around 8.30pm, you are not forgiven.

Folks of this township, I had a great experience riding in the ambulance rushing my wife to the hospital and I found that there are still many motorists who couldn't be bothered about moving aside to give way to the ambulance. I now realised what it is to be in the ambulance with your loved one where every minute counts. In many instances, the ambulance driver had to blast his horn and flash his lights before he knocked some cow sense into these culprits. If all these culprits were to change position with me, they will know what it is to give way to the ambulance. I couldn't imagine at the KESAS Kewajipan traffic lights, inspite of the siren screaming, there were at least 5-6 cars still beating the lights instead of giving way. Imagine we had to stop at red and GREEN as well to give way to those inconsiderate motorists!! At the NPE, we were competing with the same mentality people for space in the crowded road. And oh yes not forgeting those leeches that were 'hitching' a ride on the tails of the ambulance. I was told by a friend that it is an offence to chase the tail of the ambulance for if the ambulance were to break suddenly, he will crash into it and thus created the unnecessary accident and thereby disrupted its journey to the hospital. The whole journey took us 8 minutes but it looks like one hour on that night.

04-11-2005, 10:49 PM
PCyeoh, Wishing your wife speedy recovery....

05-11-2005, 12:05 AM
Thank you everyone once again for all the support that I am getting. It makes things more bearable and brighter. I am pleased to be told by the doctor that she is progressing very well. I myself is beginning to feel a heart attack coming. I have just got a peep on the medical bill this morning and what I saw, I would like to advise those who are without medical insurance to seriously look into buying one NOW even one with a minimum coverage rather than zero. I am lucky that my wife medical bill is covered by my company and that is also grossly insufficient. One incident like this one zapped up the whole year entitlement and I have 6 more months to go. I shall make my comment when I see the final bill and that will be on Monday itself when she is scheduled to be discharged. Now I am the one that must take a complete rest to face the moment of truth on Monday.

05-11-2005, 12:16 AM
PC... all the doing good karma is paying off... wife getting better... :)

Don't play play with blood vessel aneurysm - its a silent killer and averagely 1 in 3 that suffers this condition goes bye bye suddenly...

Time to learn to take things a wee bit easy and spend more time with missus.

BTW... can we meet up tomorrow night 05 Nov - my place/your place. I touchdown at about 5.45pm from Narita. Need to pass you something as entrusted to me.

Cheers...n God bless

05-11-2005, 03:47 PM
So relieve to hear that good news, PC, take care and God bless Helen !

06-11-2005, 09:40 PM
I just got back from a long overseas trip and am totally shocked at what I am reading now. My apologies to you PC for not being there when comfort and strength was the order of the day. But I am delighted that my other good neighbours here were able to lend their utmost support when you needed it the most.

It is most pleasing to note that Helen has pulled thru and things are back to its normal pace.

"If GOD looks after the birds in the sky and the fishes in the sea,
wouldn't he do more for us whom HE has created in HIS own image."

Be strong, bro. The FORCE is with you.

I've had the most good fortune in meeting Helen this evening and I'm pleased to announce that she's in high spirits, jovial and chatty.

Looking forward to hearing more stories from you, get well soon Helen Khoo :D

I've had the most good fortune in meeting Helen this evening and I'm pleased to announce that she's in high spirits, jovial and chatty.

Looking forward to hearing more stories from you, get well soon Helen Khoo :D

When I last visited her last night at 8.45 pm, she told me two persons visited her earlier. One I knew was Aroki while the Chinese lady I couldn't figure out who she was. So it must be you Pets=Friends. Lucky she didn't ask for your name as I can't imagine what would be in her mind when you should introduce yourself as Pets=Friends. She will be wondering what kind of friends I have who have such name expecting only divine name like Muthusamy instead of, example, Atomic Fire, Skyvampire or Blackgammon. Thank you guys for dropping in to express your care and concern for her well being. Pets=Friends is right to say that she is in high spirits, jovial and chatty though I may not agree with the last one as she cannot be more chatty than me!!

Last night Yvonne Foong and her mum were there. Yvonne, to Helen is no stranger as we did talk about Yvonne's need for funds to go for her needed operations. It is good that they met.

I was told this morning on my way to work that they will remove the "staples" (I hope the neurosurgeon got that stapler from the Operation theatre and not from his desk) as the wound have healed. Hopefully, if everything is OK, she should be discharged from Ward 5A, Room 585-1 today or tomorrow latest. I would prefer her to stay for another day as last Saturday, she was feeling 'not so good.' But many thanks to Gilbert Yeoh who made a difference in her feeling for the better. Gilbert, though not a monk, has been the "spiritual" doctor and also the 'agent' for the Japanese traditional Reiki. He brought Mr Law, a reiki therapist who administered reiki, a kind of energy healing that is believed to use universal life force which works holistically on physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual level. It has nothing to do with one particular religion. He and his group never fails to lend their support to us.

Hi! PC,

Hope everything is ok now.

08-11-2005, 12:17 PM

Just got back from overseas.
Glad to hear that Mrs. P C Yeoh is recovering
very well.

09-11-2005, 02:24 AM
From what PCYeoh has described, this is a case of brain aneurysm (sometimes wrongly spelt as anurism).

As quoted in http://www.bafound.org/info/index.php -
"A brain aneurysm is a weak bulging spot on the wall of a brain artery very much like a thin balloon or weak spot on an inner tube."

This is a problem with no signs of impending danger. It can happen to anyone of any age. One cause of the problem is a defect of the blood vessel in the brain that becomes literally a "time bomb".
I didn't know why I missed out this statement mentioned in the above URL.

The blood sprayed around the base of the brain can also produce a problem called vasospasm. Vasospasm typically develops 5-8 days after the initial hemorrhage. Narrowing of the blood vessels can occur, and at times not enough blood is supplied to the brain and a stroke may result. To treat vasospasm, blood pressure is often elevated with medicines. Certain medications are also given to try to ease vasospasm. Finally, catheters can be introduced inside the artery in an attempt to use balloons or medications delivered to the vessel directly to open up these narrowed vessels. Vasospasm does relax over several days.

Today is Tuesday. My wife condition suddenly worsened on Monday night which is exactly 8 days since she suffered from this problem. She called me early Tuesday morning to inform me that she felt very uncomfortable and could feel the pressure in her head and wanted me to be there. The doctor did another scan, test the urine and blood and check all her body vital signs and found them OK which was a big relief to me but they cannot do much to ease the pain except to administer pain killer and other medication to ease the condition.

She has lost all appetite and would throw up whenever she tried to eat. And from the information above, it looks like she has to bear this unbearable discomfort for several more days. I was with her the whole day till midnight when I have to return home. Sometime I could hear her say that it is better to die and I would place my fore finger to shut her lips as I do not want anyone to grant her wish. I was just so helpless except to hold her hands and assured her that everything possibly is being done to ease the pain not only on the head but down the neck and shoulders too. I didn't know that this was coming and I wonder why the doctor did not forewarn us. Just a day earlier, we were looking to her homecoming not knowing that it could have been coming home to the Lord. She was so cheerful and even asked me to bring either a hat or a scarf as they have shaved off some of her hair on the forehead. When I left her just now, she was soundly asleep. It looks like it will be a few more days before I could bring her home. Looking at the latest situation, it will be best that she can stay in the hospital as long as the situation warrants it. I need all to continue to pray unceasingly. And I have to be brave.

09-11-2005, 03:30 AM
dear pc,

i honestly feel with you, how helpless is the feeling when sitting there and doing nothing but holding a hand.
but what we forget in those hard times is that all the person wants, is you to sit there and hold her hand !!!
so you are there for her, she doesn't want to hear you alot, just wants to feel your hand and to know you are there for her when she needs you most.
you have to be brave and be ensured of our prayers for all of your family.
and allways remember, you are doing your best and the right thing by just being there !!!

09-11-2005, 07:26 AM
PC, my wife & I are praying for perfect health for Helen that not one limb or internal organ or blood vessel and cells or tissue or muscle shall malfunction. She shall have perfect health and perfect life... We are also praying for you and your children as well dat throughout this painful ordeal, everything will work out well to you & family who loved the Lord and are called according to His purpose... Take care

09-11-2005, 10:35 AM
Dear PCY

I have been following this thread quite closely and hoping that everything will work out fine for Mrs PCY. These are all tests of God...One has to be strong physically and mentally to undergo these tests. These tests are more for the nears and dears rather than Mrs PCY. How people surrounding her react will give Mrs PCY all the strength and confidence to come out of it. You will be surprised but this is true! The pain will always be there. No pain, no gain some say.

This is not the time to break down and cry. Be strong. All our prayers are always with you and your family. God Bless!

This is my first posting and I thought this makes some interesting reading. Glad to hear of Mrs Yeoh's discharge.

Subject: Fwd: A Needle can save the LIFE of a STROKE PATIENT

Please keep this very handy... Excellent tips. Do take a minute to read this. You'll never know. One's life may depend on you.

My father was paralyzed and later died from the result of a stroke. I wish I knew about this first aid before. When stroke strikes, the capillaries in the brain will gradually burst. When a stroke occurs, stay calm. No matter where the victim is, do not move him/her. Because, if moved, the capillaries will burst. Help the victim to sit up where h e is to prevent him from falling over again, and then the bloodletting can begin. If you have in your home an injection syringe that would be the best, otherwise, a sewing needle or a straight pin will do. Place the needle/pin over fire to sterilize it, and then use it to prick the tip of all 10 fingers. There are no specific acupuncture points, just prick about an mm from the fingernail. Prick till blood comes out. If blood does not start to drip, then squeeze with your fingers. When all 10 digits is bleeding, wait a few minutes then the victim will regain consciousness. If the victim's mouth is crooked, then pull on his ears until they are red. Then prick each ear lobe twice until two drops of blood comes from each ear lobe. After a few minutes the victim should regain consciousness. Wait till the victim regain his normal state without any abnormal symptoms

then take him to the hospital, otherwise, if he was taken in the ambulance in a hurry to the hospital, the bumpy trip will cause all the capillaries in his brain to burst. If he could save his life, barely managing to walk, then it is by the grace of his ancestors. I learned about letting blood to save life from Chinese traditional doctor Ha Bu-Ting who lives in Sun-Juke. Furthermore, I had practical experience with it. Therefore I can say this method is 100% effective. In 1979, I was teaching in Fung-Gaap College in Tai-Chung. One afternoon I was teaching class when another teacher came running to my class room and said in panting, "Mr. Liu, come quick, our supervisor has had a stroke!" I immediately went to the 3rd floor. When I saw our supervisor, Mr.Chen Fu-Tien, his color was off, his speech was slurred, his mouth was crooked-all the symptoms of a stroke.

I immediately asked one of the practicum students to go to the pharmacy outside the school to buy a syringe, which I used to prick Mr. Chen's 10 fingers tips. When all 10 fingers were bleeding (each with a pea-sized drop of blood), after a few minutes, Mr. Chen's face regained its color and his eyes' spirit returned, too. But his mouth was still crooked. So I pulled on his ears to fill them with blood. When his ears became red, I pricked his right earlobe twice to let out 2 drops of blood. When both earlobes had two drops of blood each, a miracle happened. Within 3-5 minutes the shape of his mouth returned to normal and his speech became clear. We let him rest for a while and have a cup of hot tea, then we helped him go down the stairs, drove him to Wei-Wah Hospital . He rested one night and was released the next day to return to school to teach. Everything worked normally. There were no ill after-effects. On the other hand, the usual stro ke victim usually suffers irreparable bursting of the brain capillaries on the way to the hospital. As a result, these victims never recover.

Therefore stroke is the second cause of death. The lucky ones will stay alive but can remain paralyzed for life. It is such a horrible thing to happen in one's life. If we can all remember this bloodletting method and start the life-saving process immediately, in a short time, the victim will be revived and regain 100% normality. We hope you can tell others about this first aid method. By doing so, stroke may be removed from the list of major causes of death.

Forward this after reading. It will be a good deed indeed. The greatest risk is not taking one... Make a difference!!!

dear citizen_x

sorry to to this to your 1st posting, as i am sure you had the best of intentions in posting it..

according to the Urban Legends References Pages (http://www.snopes.com/medical/disease/stroke.asp) , the advice of the email quoted has no medical basis, and is very likely to cause more harm to the victim, due to the delay in transporting the victim to the hospital, in order to prick his fingers, and pull his ears, and drive slowly so as not to damage his brain.

once again, sorry to disparage your post, so as to not have people follow unsound advice..

Thanks for the pointer to the Urban Legends References Pages. I received the contents in an email and had no way of verifying its validity. It was not my aim to knowingly pass on unsound advice, but then, this is the beauty of a public forum, isn't it? We learn something everyday.

We learn something everyday.

yes! i sure do believe that...

hope mrs yeoh is doing better!

The first thing to learn is that what you read on the web (emails included) need not be true. This is the greatest danger where people think the web provides truth. We have, in this Forum, tried many times to teach people about checking and verifying details. Google is available and it is a great way to check.

Secondly, do pass the details through your own grey matter. By reading the "blood-letting" story, logic will ask you how a drop of blood in each fingertip will cause any significant change to the circulatory system where it presumeably releases any pressure buildup in the system. Wouldn't it be worse if the advice suggested real heavy blood letting?

To the uninformed, stroke is not necessarily caused by bleeding from burst capillaries. A blood clot which travelled to the brain's blood vessels could have caused a blockage of blood flow to the brain cells, causing brain damage. That is a stroke. In other cases, an anuerysm like that documented here would also cause brain damage due to interrupted blood flow to brain cells.

I always don't believe what the e-mails say. Unless they are from authorised/government organisations.

The post citizen_x posted is similar to a chain letter, letters wants you to believe it, the same as this. Unless this method is verified by a high official or some sort, I'll NEVER practise it.

I believe in scientists' theory, be it physics, biology or so. There's proof for it. But for this, its just a plain fiction story.

So people, please verify before you post.

This afternoon at 2pm, I brought Helen home after spending 12 days in the hospital. Alan Cheng was with me and it was a relief to have a helping hand to carry the excess baggages. The two small kids were very happy to see their mother home. The 8 year old one was indeed very helpful. She cleaned the living room and place extra cushion to make her mom comfortable. At least now I don't have to shuttle between home and hospital and with the traffic jam coming back in place after a week off, commuting between the two locations has been very stressful. My concern now is to look after her well being and trust God even more now that I am on my own to care for her. To all of you, my heartfelt thanks for your prayers and concern and best wishes for a quick recovery. Now everything is entrusted in God's hand that she will do what we all wish for her. And good night.

PS: So coincident that on the day she was struck down, she cooked the most delicious laksa we have ever tasted. She invited her best friend who is a laksa lover over for the laksa do. When that night she was went through the ordeal, I was wondering whether that laksa has any omen of the things to come. Hopefully, she will recover fast we will throw a laksa party and we will invite you all to taste the famous Penang assam laksa cooked by her.
