Looks like Najib's vision for UM to reach the Top 50 by 2020 took on a reverse gear. Also, the three heads of education of Shafie, Hisham and Nawawi is not better than one. What a disgrace...

The National University of Singapore, which was ranked 18 in 2004, dropped to number 22.

But it was ranked number four in the Rest of the World category, coming behind Beijing University, Tokyo University and Melbourne University.

Err...Kudos to the Singaporean leaderships...an island member state of Malaya then...which began with a brief history of having a busy commercial port along the Malacca Straits...she...being a multi-racial BUT tiny nation no less...has progressed tremendously til today...resided by some 4,425,700 (http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&start=1&oi=answers&q=http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/rankorder/2119rank.html) populations of a majority from the SAME original MULTI-RACIAL residents/descendent of the Federation of Malaya... Ahem...she doesn't ANY Towering trophies...BUT her report card n performance says it all... :D

UM ranking will continue to fall unless the government practises TRUE meritocracy. :)

National university of singapore was the same university as UM when they first started and now it is number 3 in asia beating hong kong university. Let us leave out university of melbourne as it is not considered an asian university.

Anyone from university of melbourne here ?

So, Bolehland was better off in the past without a ministry for higher education. Wonder if he wil get any bonus this year. :D

Well, I suppose it's OK, we are still better than the Uni. of West Burkina Faso. :p

Yeah, here we have UM erecting banners and billboards celebrating the inclusion in THES 200 and congratulatory advertisements to itself for one whole year. So busy doing such admin stuff that they neglected to continue building on its 'strength' of the 89th position. Other unis like NUS make no hoo-ha about it and it's results are sterling that people take notice without the fanfare.

Local institutions here really "mau gaya, mutu tak ada"....how to "jou tai si" (do big things of importance in cantonese)

 Alamak! My bachelor and master's both from UM-lah.... Hope my employer don't get to read the report lah, otherwise kena pay cut :

Calculation :

Cut Current Salary based on 89th position to 169th out of 200 candidates

= 80/200 = 40% CUT!
