I am looking for a good and reasonably priced dentist to straighten my front teeth. I just had a rough check, it seems that it costs a few thousand ringgit  .

Why is it so expensive ? Anybody here has done their braces before ?

can anybody recommend a much more reasonable priced dentist. It looks like a simple operation so I don't understand why it is so costly.

I had braces done, during my teens. If I recall, the whole treatment costed my parents about rm1K plus (not more than 2K) The whole treatment took about 21/2 years (including wearing retainers). They don't charge a lump sum, everytime you go, they will charge you. There are many sessions before the actual braces are put on. eg. to make a mould of your teeth, to extract 4 molars so that there was space for my teeth to move..... and everymonth when I went to tighten the wires.

But then this was about 2 decades ago.....It should probably cost more now. It also depends on how complicated/crooked/bucked your teeth are.

Unversity Hospital has an excellent Dental Faculty why not check with them, they should be reasonable.

The cost includes putting those little metal hooks on each tooth, the "rubber bands" that actually does the job of pulling the teeth into place, changing them every few weeks, etc. The total cost is about RM 6000. Usually they ask you to pay half upfront and then about RM 200 every visit till the full amount is paid up. Takes 1-2 years in total. During that period some people would have spent more on their hair and make-up. :D

All Dentists are good and i find it unethical to recommend a Dentist.

The Dentist that is on duty would be your Dentist, I suppose. Rates are standard like in any Government hospital.

Sawasdee ..
If you go to a Govt clinic, you would probably be on the waiting list for about 4 years. That's what my orthodontist brother who work at the Kuantan office says.
But if you are willing to foot around rm5K then there is no need to wait.
I had mine done in 1979 .. factor in inflation and what not ..

Anyway.. don't forget about the after cost .. my bro says that the teeth will eventual go out again if no "supporters' are done.

Yup .. some people are lucky .. and probably cleomea is younger as well...
The younger you are .. the less you need a supporter because the bones are young and soft .. gets harder when you grow older ..

They are not called supporters (cos there is nothing to support) :o I think my son's orthodontist calls them retainers.
