hi,

i am first time posting here. recently i noticed a lot of bank has started to put their "NOTES Counter Display" on top of the counter, at a very prominent place.

which means, everyone sitting at the waiting hall will be able to know how much you withdraw. this makes u and easy prey.

despite i have made suggestion/complain to 4 branches (of 3 different bank), you should be able to see more as this matter was not reported to the HQ.

i have sent an email to BNM, and lets see if they response

attach is the photo i took from one of the bank.

just becareful especially during this festive season

What is the danger you are refering to? wasnt there always an element of danger when you walked in or out of any bank all this time,I have never thought about it till now, since you have mentioned it.

ski,

the danger is the robbers know exactly how much you have when u walk out. they don't have to try rob anyone that comes out from the bank.

its like the bank shouts "AH BENG just withdraw RM20,000" via the loud speaker and everyone can hear it.

another stupid ATM machine is the one with plastic cover that cover the keypad (u need to put your hand inside to type on the keypad), the system was so stupidly designed that u need to type on the keypad, remove your hand, then type on the key beside the screen, then put your hand back in and type on the keypad, then remove your hand and and type on the screen's key...i bet the developer didn't even use it when they design such a system.

yet another stupid ATM is, they will show your balance for a long long long time, long after u have done, and the the next person know how much your balance is!

I always think of this whenever I use the atm to withdraw monies. Not that I have a lot to withdraw, but the thot of someone who is busy-body to see my account balance irks me! Actually, they had these small titled sreen bars, many many years ago. Wonder who was the smart alec that replaced it with the current ones.

I cannot help laughing while reading some of the replies in this thread! Yeah..why do they need to put the handful of us into such predicaments huh..sometimes i'm down to nearly zero cents and that, could be really embarrasing. :o

There's no need to be embarassed to have near zero balance in your account. After all who wld know which account u r using? The is no point keeping more than the minimum to cover a cheque in a current account right? I don't care if ppl see RM123.45 or RM1.23 but I do mind if someone peeks over my shoulder if my account balance is showing Rm1,234,567.89 LOL :D

Dunno whether anyone notice or not but all banks should take the ATMs' screen at HSBC as an example. U can onluy view the info on the screen if u are facing it directly, try sideways and u see black screen. I noticed Maybank had changed some of their units to this type so no more worries about ppl looking from left or right. However the bad point about HSBC's ATM is u dont get to see the recepient name when u bank into their accounts. Key in the acct no, deposit ur money and the receipt wil follow. There is no recepient name on the screen or slip therefore u would not know whether u have banked into the right acct or not? Is it a technical flaw or is HSBC trying to play safe by BN ruling??

tykang,

they hide the name by purpose, scare people poking account number and get the name.

it is a disadvantages for people that want to bank in, imagine 12 digits acc no, one mistake and your money gone!!

SCB also the same. I normally bank in cash via counter. last time SCB got screwed by me because from counter they can only accept more than RM3K, i screwed them upside down, RM2k not money ah??

If u feel unsafe using the ATM deposit that does not show name, just go to the counter, and then write them a letter tell them how stupid their machine is, i even propose to them that showing the last 4/first 4 digit IC no as a security measure, so that we don't blur blur key in acc no and take the receipt.

i guessed they are treating us stupid, real stupid.

hi ski,

i think it all depends on what u want to do with the bank, for example tykang's case, he wants to bank in cash via the machine, what he wants is to have the acc name for double confirmation, but unfortunely the machine did not show name, what else can he use to verify his entry?

cheers
