NYONYA ROOTS @ 3K

A Nyonya Restaurant right under our noses !!
Posted on 05.40pm Oct 07, 2014

The egg belanda Anyone here know there is a restaurant right under our noses? Gosh..I didnt know !!?? It was only very recently when a friend pointed out to me that there is a very nice nyonya restaurant called Nyonya Roots located within the 3K premises in SS 13! Wow what a find !!

And indeed it has turn out to be a real small world ! The owner of this restaurant is Ms Sue who used to assist her sister Nancy when she was running Mama Restaurant next to the former Atria in Damansara. See our Archive:

Nancy gave up the business after her beloved hubby Mike, who was managing the restaurant, passed away.

Sue has kept the Menu to a more manageable level, but the best of my favourite Nyonya dishes are still there for the helping ! Without fail, my visit always include the order of Egg Belanda, Curry ikan tumis or curry chicken kapitan. And usually also either the joo hu char or kacang botol kerabu.

The Egg Belandar is particularly nice with it's sweety and sourish taste from the asam flavour. Always love this dish that goes very very well with rice!! The Curry Ikan tumis is the style most Penangnites and northerners just cannot resist! Sometimes, I am tempted to gulp down the balance of the curry !! The curry chicken kapitan also never varies and the thickness of the curry is always just right !!

And if you love kerabu, dont miss their kacang botol kerabu. Damn shiok...haha... sure will clean up the plate !! I wont comment on the joo hu char.....think they are about the same everywhere, though I think it could be better with a bit more cuttlefish ingredient !!

Other dishes you may also want to try is the perut ikan though not everyone like this item. It's a bit of a uniquely Penang taste and favourite and may take some getting used to !!

Dessert here is limited. Usually the offering is for just 2 or 3 items, and invariably chose from either chendol or pulut hitam. But a point to note is that the chendol here is pretty good too !! For the pulut hitam, the santan is served separately so that you can add in the amount to suit your taste. I love that as I tend to add a lot of santan. I love my pulut rich with santan !! Tastes so good !!

Compared to other nyonya restaurants in town, Nyonya Roots can be considered very, very reasonable!! For example the Joo hu char is 12.90 and the egg belanda is 10.90. They also serve set lunch on working days.
